BlackGentry dating app is a members-only dating app that makes it easier to meet ambitious and intentional singles. BlackGentry is designed to foster a high-quality community where members can meet, match, and build lasting relationships.
Every profile is reviewed by the membership committee before being accepted. Prospective members can download the app and submit an application. Once submitted, applications are placed on a waitlist and are reviewed by the membership committee. An applicant’s status can change from “waitlisted” to “accepted” at any time. We prioritize detailed, polished profiles with classy photos that reflect effort and profiles that align with our community standards. Acceptance is not guaranteed, and profiles that don’t meet our criteria will not be approved.

All members can chat with their matches for free and also send a limited number of Direct Messages per day. Members can choose to subscribe to Deluxe or VIP to enable more features. Subscription options include 1-month, 3-month, 6-month, and 12-month plans. Prices are in U.S. dollars, may vary by country, and are subject to change without notice.
Subscriptions will be charged to your Apple account at confirmation of purchase and your account will be charged for renewal within 24-hours prior to the end of the current subscription period. Auto-renewal may be turned off at any time by going to your Apple Account settings. Subscriptions will auto-renew unless turned off at least 24-hours before the end of the current period.
Any unused portion of a free trial period, if offered, will be forfeited when the user purchases a subscription to that publication, where applicable.
Subscriptions are tied to only one BlackGentry account and cannot be used by multiple accounts.

I will start with the positivesYou do come across more quality men on here and i was exclusively dating someone off this app for months and they were a nice person but things happened unfortunately to why things ended, nothing to do with the app of courseNow the negatives are more surrounding the bugs and functionality of the app which i have listed below:* sometimes i have to close the app and reopen to receive new message notifications because it doesnt consistently update in real time* the app automatically matches me with people who i have never ever matched with so they just literally pop up in the ‘my matches’ area. This has happened over 6 times over a course of 2 years where i have been on and off the app. This causes awkwardness for both people because i did not choose them so i end up unmatching them which is sad as they clearly thought i was interested*there is no free option for ‘pausing’ your profile so your having to delete your profile if you just needed a break and if you want to use the app again your having to set up a nee profile every single time which sometimes i just cant be botheredAll in all, while i still support the app. Hinge is definitely top contender as you can filter on race and you dont get the bug issues and you can pause your profile for free

Too restrictive, trying too hard to come off as exclusive

Not only is there a cap on how many times you swipe right but there’s a cap on how many times you swipe left?? Also there’s a restriction on how many free dms you can answer. Which is super pointless if you’re unable to respond to the people who dm you first. It’s not worth paying extra when the free version is too restrictive. Feels exploitative of the fact you want to make money off people who are obviously desperate to date within their community and then on top of that the app makes it harder to maintain those connections.Not sure how long this app has been around but if they want more user success they should take off the restrictions. Also it’s laughable they have this fake DBS thing to check your profile meets the standards for example no flexing money in your pictures, throwing gang signs or putting up the middle finger” yet I’ve seen so many profiles like that. Whoever’s doing the cross checks clearly isn’t thorough enough!

In comparison with other apps this app is lacking big time. People can only text. No phone or video call, no voice note. Just exchange texts and that’s it. I’m comparison other apps even have the ability to have videos and voice notes on their profile. This one only pictures and some texts. Because of how under developed it looks it doesn’t have too many people, so the ones we reject appear again… and the worst is that even paying the premium i was feeling scammed because the people there wasn’t even matching when I was supposedly liking them back… only had the ability to text them directly. The potential is there. The only one thing I love about the app is that is for black people and we can see 95% of the time black people there.. a few white people trynna get that chocolate, can’t blame them. I still use the app waiting for the day an upgrade will actually be an upgrade.

As a new app, our initial focus is quality and establishing a community where Black singles can find love. We have many exciting features coming.
Can’t Stand the App

The direct messages feature has to be the worst by far. Basically, people can message you whether you’ve matched them or not and they go into a separate inbox, but I find it extremely inappropriate for someone like me, who’s only 24, getting literally 20, 30, 40 messages a day from creepy older men who are between the ages of 40-60 even though my settings specifically state I only want people between 23-29. It gives these guys an opportunity to pretty much harass me as much as they want and I can’t hide my account from them unless I block every single one of them.They also recycle A LOT of profiles over and over even if I’ve left swiped a person 5 times in one go. The app moves quite slowly, it drives me nuts, and just now my whole profile seems to have disappeared and the app won’t open properly. There’s a whole list of problems I can state about this app including the condescending responses from the Developers towards the other people rating this app low. Honestly a waste of time.
