You need at least one working Pi-hole instance running on another device for this app to function and you must use Pi-hole Version 6.0 or up. Pi-hole Remote is a third party app which uses the Pi-hole API and is in no way affiliated with Pi-hole. Find out more about Pi-hole at https://pi-hole.net/.
This app offers a "Pi-hole Remote+" version with additional features, in the form of a lifetime purchase, a monthly subscription, or a yearly subscription. I don’t usually review apps but this one deserves its 5 stars hands down. From checking live logs for diagnostics, to the ease of selecting a service to block with just one tick the Pi-hole Remote is one of the select few apps I use across all my devices on a regular basis. It’s the little things that count in life and this is just one of those convenient tools that makes things much easier. The accompanying widgets to see statistics at a glance are extremely useful for seeing data on my home screen without needing to open apps and navigate around menus. The responsiveness of the app is rapid and loading data (especially if your Pi-hole server is relatively beefy) is pretty much instant - cannot recommend the app any more! Super grateful for its existence 💯
Excellent & most useful app
Drako74
What an excellent and extremely useful app for anyone running Pi-Hole. I have 2 instances running with unbound DNS, and this app makes administering and monitoring them so much easier. I especially love the configuration sync feature, and hope this keeps getting expanded on to include things like groups & clients lists. It saves so much time and effort it’s brilliant.Well worth paying for, especially if you have more than one Pi-Hole instance.Keep up the great work 👍🏼👍🏼
No longer supports v5
Jgreenacre2nrj
Edited: I’ve edited this after making a new test v6 install. Features that were free in this app are now behind a paywall, including the live log. Why someone would pay for this when this is now in the web interface for free, I do not know. Taking away features that were once free means I won’t be using this anymore.==========I use PiHole v5 and do not want to update to v6 for a few months to ensure that any bugs have been worked out. This app has updated and now no longer works with v5 (which has only been outdated for a few days) and will only work once PiHole is updated to v6, rendering this app now useless to anyone who wants to ensure stability for their DNS rather than blindly updating to the newest version. Do not use if you want to keep v5.
Developer Response
Hi, existing users can get PHR+ lifetime for free with the provided button on the paywall screen. I didn’t want to take features away from anybody! As for v5: because the API in v6 is just so wildly different than v5, I chose to rebuild the app without any v5 code. Because that would make the v6 version worse for everyone and would be a lot of extra effort without much payoff (just temporary basically). Therefore the app only supports v6 and there’s no way around that right now. The last versions of v6 have been more stable, hopefully you can update soon! - Joost
Very good app
JonDPrice83
I wanted a nice app to manage my Pihole without having to log into the Pi itself. Along comes this app and changed my life. OK, maybe it's not that dramatic but it IS a pretty good app. It shows me everything I need in one place and allows me to see at a glance what's happening on my network. The only thing it could do better is to allow us to update the Pi/Pihole itself right from the app. 😀Still, it's a good enough app for my uses and I'm.very happy to give it 5 stars.
Developer Response
Thank you! 😊 Would love to add updating right from the app, sadly the Pi-hole API does not support this at the moment so I can’t implement it. Maybe in the future! - Joost
v9.3 lets you jump from the Home chart straight to matching Query Log entries and adds an aggregated query chart for combined instances. It also improves Sync Instances, widget reliability, and brings a broad round of fixes.
* Changelog *
New:
- Select a time in the Home chart to view matching Query Log entries (press and pull down on touch devices, or click on Mac)
- Combined instances now show an aggregated query chart
Improved:
- Sync Instances now preserves enabled states and group assignments when copying adlists and domains, and batches new entries for faster transfers
Fixed:
- Apple Watch now stays in sync when you add, edit, remove, or reorder Pi-hole instances
- PHR+ status now syncs automatically to Apple Watch after purchases, restores, and subscription changes
- Improved connection reliability for IPv6 hosts and custom API paths, and fixed sessions sometimes refreshing too late
- Fixed older Query Log results opened from charts sometimes being incomplete or duplicated, and blank hidden-domain entries hiding results
- Fixed Query Log date ranges around daylight-saving changes and the newest partial history period sometimes being omitted
- Fixed Sync Instances incorrectly reporting different domains, adlists, or Local DNS records as already in sync, showing stale connection details, and repeatedly timing out on unavailable instances
- Fixed Sync Instances not updating existing group and client settings, silently ignoring some transfer failures, starting multiple transfers at once, and showing incorrect item counts before syncing
- Fixed a crash when disabling blocking from a Shortcut or widget after all Pi-hole instances had been removed
- Fixed indefinite blocking from Shortcuts showing an expired Live Activity, and prevented failed disables from starting one
- Live Activities now update and end more reliably when timers are extended or blocking is re-enabled, display the correct final status, and support controls on iOS 17.0
- Improved stability when Pi-hole returns malformed or unusually large query, history, or statistics data, while preserving more detailed error messages
- Widgets now refresh more reliably and recover correctly after connection errors or when no Pi-hole instances are configured
- Fixed Statistics widgets showing placeholder values as real data when every selected instance is unavailable, and formatting zero blocked queries incorrectly in percentage mode
- Fixed the Disable widget preview when All Instances is selected, restored the Query Graph legend, and ensured Indefinitely is translated correctly
