A charging app that actually gets EV charging needs
Simon O'Leary
This app has such a smooth sign up process and then so easy to pay and actually use chargers. The features like availability and expected usage levels are awesome. Super useful and modern! Definitely recommend having it ready when charging away from home.

App doesn’t work and TapKey not Received
PeteThePianoGuy
Review Update:Following my original 1-star review I’ve upgraded my review to 3-star following contact from the support team. It seems the company are having some issues fulfilling orders to customers in London. They have provided me with a refund which I consider a resolution, so I feel 3 stars is a fair appraisal of my experience. I think the app has potential, but it’s clear they have some issues for certain users. For now I’ve found another service, but I’ll probably give Tap Electric another go in a while.Original ReviewNine days ago I subscribed. I have not received my TapKey and the app does not work (repeated error message ‘that was unexpected, try again later’). lead time for TapKey is supposed to be ‘1-5 business days’. Very disappointing as I was trying to get this sorted ahead of a road trip to the Netherlands. My advice would be to avoid this app. I’m seeking a refund from the vendor for my subscription.

Hi PeteThePianoGuy, we appreciate your patience and updating your rating. We hope next time you're road tripping in the Netherlands, you'll Tap with us.
Confusing. Worst charging app ever
Pete5819zan
I write this review as a driver wanting to charge and not an EV charge point operator wanting to monetise their charger.Registering to use the app is not clear - there is no option to register as a new user. Confusingly you just log in.I chose a password with the @ symbol and could not proceed with registering. It seems @ is not allowed but there was no error message or password guidance. The app is not usable on an iPad as the screens do not scale properly. The pricing is utterly confusing with three separate elements plus a push to get you to subscribe for cheaper rates. The subscription model offers discounts but it turns out the discount is only applied to the transaction fee and not the whole cost of charging. As there is no way of knowing in advance what the transaction fee is you cannot work out if a subscription will work for you.If you wish to subscribe the app promises to detect and link automatically to your ApplePay account. It doesn’t and you need to enter your credit card details separately. On a more positive note it looks like you can message a user who may be hogging a charger (but only if they have entered their registration number). And it looks like you can get a notification when an occupied charger becomes free. Both of these are very useful (though not yet tested)Overall from a user perspective this app is awful and a far cry from the need to make charging an EV as simple as filling up with petrol. I have to ask if this app was properly tested by real users.
Developer Response
Hey Pete5819zan,Thanks for the lengthy and detailed review - our team have looked into your feedback. We've opted to use continue or sign in for all new and returning users - but unlike other apps you can continue as a guest and start a charge session without signing up. We've done some serious testing around symbols in your password and confirm that you can use "@" for your passwords, along with "^","%","#","$" - if you're still having issues please let us know. You can use our nifty feature Tariff Intel to calculate how much your expected charge session cost is on any given charger in our app. While most tariffs are simple, you pay a price per kWh, Tariff Intel also calculates your costs for complex tariffs eg. when you have to pay a starting rate (fixed amount to plug in); or a parking/vacancy rate that comes into effect once your vehicle is fully loaded but still connected. It's worth noting that prices shown in Tariff Intel is reflective of whether you pay-as-you-go or the type of subscription you have eg. if you have a Roamer plan - we'll show you what you're expected to pay on that charger with 0% transaction fee.On your feedback for iPad screens - we're very much focused on improving the app for now.If you have any more feedback for us, feel free to send it over to support@tapelectric.app.Cheers
Try Awful

I’ve seen some terrible things in 6 years of EV ownership, but this takes the biscuit. Not sure where to start. 5 chargers available, one with a red light. They don’t take credit cards or RFID cards. They say you can use RFID but no reader on the chargers. Tried all 4, whilst on the phone to their support. When I scanned one charger, a different one started! All 4 accepted my charge and took £40, but then timed out before connecting to the car . I can’t think of a worse experience, and it’s a very low bar. It should be illegal to not accept credit cards. This is my 13th app download. I looked up their support number around 8pm, the app says they are off line till 1300 on Saturday. I hope these cowboys go bust, it’s what they deserve
Did your installer set up your charger at home for you? You can now accept their service plans through the app.

Happy Tapping!
