Simple and straightforward to use language translator
RichP 888
This app has a clean interface and is simple and straightforward to use, it auto detects the country you are in for auto translation and all you need to do is type in the words you would like translated and it provides the translation instantly. Highly recommended.Only improvement I would suggest (from a marketing point of view) is some form of logo or watermark, or perhaps a small message at the bottom of the screen stating ‘DeepL translation’ so the person you are conversing with knows which app you are using so that they can download it.
Top of the game by a long shot

As a keen linguist, I discovered LingQ 5 years ago.. and only have used another translator on a handful of occasions. It’s always used AI technology, making it so much smarter and more accurate than google translate and others. It’s not perfect by any means but gets things right nearly every time. It is scarily accurate in Spanish also. To get a proper translation or understanding of a word, you need to play with context. This translator recognises and bases results on context. No ads on here.. app itself has always run extremely smoothly, it’s lightweight, rapid. It’s been a massive part of my language learning journeys.Downsides: I wish that with languages of different variations, eg for Spanish, you could select European (Castellano) Spanish and LatinAmerican Spanish, unfortunately though it leans towards castellano, it does at times give words you’d only really see outside of Spain and Europe. My easy bypass for this is to insert ‘castellan’ or ‘Spain’ in context. I feel this is unnecessary effort when it could be done for me. After a bit of practice you really master this tool and whether it’s for going abroad and needing a solution, or learning languages in itself.. it’s a necessity in my opinion.
Couldn’t do without

DeepL has been a life saver to me moving to France and having tried a few different translation apps this is definitely the best. The ability to scan written words is fantastic particularly food shopping so I can avoid certain ingredients & find the ones I like. The best is being able to record someone speaking & get an instant translation. It seems really accurate & picks up all the nuances of the French language & difficult pronunciations. Well impressed
Going backwards

At some point recently, changes have been made to what was once a pretty good app to make it so much worse. Translation accuracy has deteriorated, the range of alternative translations (a formerly useful feature) has either reduced or disappeared altogether, it’s hopeless at informal and colloquial use of language, and it no longer remembers the two languages I need most often, with ‘detect language’ appearing more often instead. Using long-press to translate something with DeepL in other apps is frustrating - if you last translated something from, say, English to Polish, it doesn’t intuitively switch these around if you’re now trying to translate something from Polish, leading to the absurd offer to translate something from Polish to Polish. Come ON
No big news this time, but that’s only because we’ve been working hard on improving your experience:
- Fixed several bugs
- Enhanced the usability
- Planned and designed further for the future of translation
