World domination isn't a very fashionable ambition these days, but that doesn't mean you can't pretend. Strategery is a battle between your pegs and the green, orange, blue, and red blobs that dare to stand in your way.
It's also a little bit of App Store history. Strategery first launched in 2008, back when the App Store was barely a few months old. Macworld named it the Best Strategy Game of 2009. Slate called it their latest iPhone gaming habit. Daring Fireball said the gameplay had a great feel. And a Macworld reviewer named Lex Friedman wrote that there was no game he played on his iPhone more.
That reviewer now makes Strategery. Life is funny.
HOW IT'S PLAYED
The world is made of blobs. Every blob holds pegs — your pegs, ideally. Pick a blob you own, point at a neighboring blob you don't, and roll. More pegs, better odds. Win the roll and the blob changes color. Lose it and, well, you still have your other blobs.
Keep going until the whole map is your color and everyone else is looking for the rematch button.

Last color standing dominates the world. Politely.
THREE WAYS TO CONQUER
Solo: Play against the computer. It has no friends, no feelings, and no plans this evening. It will happily lose to you all night. (Or not. You choose how clever it gets to be.)
Online: Play against your friends. Take turns from wherever you are. A push notification lets you know when it's your move, or when someone has done something regrettable to your blobs.
Pass and play: One phone, one couch, several rivals. Hand it over, let them try, and try not to gloat.
CLASSIC OR CHAOS
Classic is the game you remember: dice, blobs, and your own poor judgment. Chaos adds starred blobs. Capture one and the wheel spins. Your conquest has consequences.
Either way, you pick how much world there is to dominate.
A WAR WITH NO CASUALTIES
Blobs don't bleed. Pegs don't feel pain. Nothing explodes, nobody gets hurt, and the only thing that ever gets conquered is a colorful shape on a map. Somebody's pride may be wounded when you take their last blob, but that's between the two of you.
For iPhone and iPad. Contains no violence, several dice, a healthy number of blobs, and a reasonable amount of whimsy.
Strategery was originally designed by Sumul Shah, Courtland Idstrom, and Peter Ju. This version comes from Lex Friedman, who is one person and would be delighted by a rating or review.

It is so simple, you could learn how the game works in 60 seconds, but mastering it, working out the nuances to outwit your AI and human opponents, I'm surprised I they ears I've enjoyed the app for, yes, years (albeit sometimes infrequently) that it hasn't become best selling app. I'm yet to stumble into any bugs, it doesn't ask for micro transactions, and has the features you would want. Even a colour blind mode. It's probably one of the oldest, if not the oldest recreational app on my iPad but it's definitely up there with the best.Trust me, get it, you'll love it if you enjoy anything along the lines of chess, checkers or othello or any little world domination strategy game, and it's perfect to just open and do a little bit on the train or bus and come bum too, or do a full game if your bored and have a bit of time on your hands.
An oldie but a damned goodie

This was one of the first apps I ever downloaded from the (then) brand new shiny App Store. It’s as great now as it was over a decade ago and something I come back to time and again. So the interface is looking a little tired these days but that’s what you get for a freebie!The gameplay is deceptively simple so that a 5 year old can grasp it, but so nuanced it would entertain a chess grandmaster whose strategy may get thrown under a bus by a bad dice roll and have to rethink again.I’d love to see some tweaks; how about options for a capital bonus, a discovery map (where you only see the borders of what you control and their armies), difficult to hold territories with a 3army max, a bar-charting readout of armies, hell why not a landscape view!Or then again, you could just retain its beauty in simplicity and stay a brilliant hours-consuming superstar.
Simple and fun but online needs fixing

Beautifully simple, yet strategically brilliant game. I play this almost every day. One feature that would be nice is landscape orientation. I prefer using my idevices in landscape orientation so this would be perfect for me.I started my venture into online gaming for this and it is really disappointing. To start with, whomever goes second gets an additional army to begin with so they can expand more quickly, one more on the first turn, two more on the second etc.. An unfair advantage. Then from nowhere, I accept a challenge and lost without ever seeing the map or picking a starting location or taking a turn or anything. What's up with that?One of the main reasons for buying this version instead of the free light version, is that it has online battles but they're broken so until they're fixed, I'd suggest people save their money and get the free version.
Disaster of an update.

Was fun until the new update; I played religiously almost every day to kill time. New update has a style that hurts the eyes, over complicates the gameplay, and seems to strip out so much of what previously made the game good. I cannot fathom why it would be updated in this way and it seems I’m not alone in this assertion. Such a shame, I’ll miss this one a lot.Edit; incredibly happy to see that I can access the older version of the game by holding the title on the homepage for five seconds. Don’t make this an Easter egg! Make this a standard button, I nearly deleted the app because I didn’t know this! Original game is easily a 5/5.
Play classic "Legacy" Strategery more easily.
Many of you love the updates to Strategery. I'm grateful!
Many of you also don't love the changes. I understand. You can tap and hold on the Strategery logo for a couple seconds to launch the classic version. And if you prefer to play that classic version every time, that's no problem: Turn on a new Setting at the bottom of the Settings screen to do exactly that.
This update also fixes a bug affecting users who enable Display Zoom on their devices.
