Since I started using EXCEL in the 1990s, I have done EVERYTHING on it - quotation spreadsheets, BoMs, sales forecasts (complete with graphs). I have also used it to create plan and elevation drawings of buildings, system schematics and product price lists (complete with photos of product). I've produced "Ready-Reckoners" for customers to cost their own sound systems, via drop-down menus. Visio has pretty-much replaced EXCEL for the drawings function in my world, but I'm still using it for all the other functions. If I want a table in WORD, I always generate the table in EXCEL, then either paste or hyperlink it into WORD - I never use WORD tables, as they're too clunky. I don't know of any other programme that's anywhere near as versatile as EXCEL - and I'm always learning new formulae to apply within cells and new functions overall. I run it on a MACBook - but never open Apple NUMBERS, because Excel is just too easy to use.

in 1000 years they will not say "this is the best thing since sliced bread" they will say: "this is the best thing since microsoft excel". And rightly so. 5,000 years of human history - innovation, discovery, love, peace, war, death... all culminating in this. Microsoft excel. virtually unchanged since its release and still. billions of dollars are transferred around the globe because of this software. this is the stuff empires are made of. men have lived and died for this app. Am I enjoying it? that is beyond the point. my small actions on this software are incomprehensible to the scale of development that this software has brought to humanity.

Other than YET ANOTHER wasteful change in menus (which is utterly confusing each time it happens, as one needs to re-learn where they are!) Excel for Mac is still too slow to be useful for many busers. I run it on a 16Gb i5 from 2018 and the time it takes to open up or run simple tasks is ridiculous. I would estimate that it's 3-4x faster on a similar Widowns PC I have. The worst part seems to be the constant need for an internet connection. Why? Just allow it to work offline!Unlike numbers, you cant easily paste in web tables into Excel. I still dont know how to do this. in Numbers, you can just highlight the table on a web page, and cut and paste. always works perfectly. Why doesn't Excel have this? Insane.On the plus side, the menus are somewhat better than the last version, which was unusable. Plus, you can now link to external data like stock prices which Google has had for over a decade. And yet even here, MSFT has failed to provide links for many international stocks. Why? How hard can it be?Stick to Numbers or Google Apps if you're not already in the MSFT system. Its pointless to learn this unless you're forced to.Please MSFT, learn from the other two and please make the app faster and add the must-have functions.

As I wrote in my review of Word, many use Excel as a database where they should be using another package. that emphasises the flexibility of Excel and at the same time just how much one needs to know to operate a modern piece of software. Unless you do this often, it is simply too hard. I fall into this trap myself, using Excel for household accounts (maybe twenty years deep) so it is, by my lights, a complicated affair of many subpages. But I also use the immediacy of use to explore little bits of maths. The graphing routines are sufficiently clever that I manage to avoid using something more specific (and the learning required for that), though I would often like to push the polynomial count higher
