Midi Player
Bukkysuccess
I have used MainStage for many years as my go to platform for live performance. I have had to switch forth and back between this and a DAW just because of the lack of a midi player. It will be nice to have a Midi Player equivalence of Playback, so we can load, for instance, a midi drum and play exactly same way Playback handles audio files
Good application. Very buggy.

I bought this recently to use on stage with a band. I load up all of my different patches and grouped everything in to different sets. I spent a full day and night working on everything and organising it all so that it was ready to use on stage. The program is good and does exactly what you need it to. Using third party plugins and patches isn’t very intuitive at first but once you work it all out, it’s okay. I was having a good time practicing all of my parts for when we’re finally able to go back on stage and decided this morning to boot up my concert to practice again. Every single time it tries to load the concert, it freezes at the exact same point. I can start new, fresh concerts and load other concerts fine, but the important one, the one that contains all of my presets, will not load. I have cleared the cache for Mainstage, I have restarted the computer, reset DMC. Nothing works. I now have the only option which is to completely redo all of my keyboard sounds and presets. Hours of EQing, changing modulation/delays/reverbs, setting all of my hotkeys, adjusting all of my levels and different keyboard sounds, all of the time spent structuring my different sets so that they are ready to go on gigs. All of that is gone. Countless hours wasted for absolutely NO REASON. Nothing seems to have triggered it, it was completely random. The worst part is I didn’t have a copy saved as I had no indication that this kind of thing could happen on an official Apple program. Embarrassing. I’m now going to spend the rest of today and tomorrow redoing all of my hard work. Such a shame because I was really enjoying Mainstage. Learn from my mistake and ALWAYS save a copy of your concert to another location on your drive.
ACCESS ALL LOGIC PLUGINS INSTRUMENTS & AUTOSAMPLER

I bought LOGIC when it came out in the early nineties and loved it right up until it merged with Garage Band. I actually hate the interface. So now I use Ableton or FL Studio for programming and treat them like hardware sampler or synthesisers then move to BitWig to record audio. What I miss out on is a superb sound library and some very familiar plugins. Main Stage is your access to everything in LOGIC without the dumbed down interface. I generally use Networked MIDI and run it on a second machine and patch the audio. It's actually easier to do it in Main Stage than in LOGIC. So I get all the keyboards. I get the guitar rigs and effects. I get all the plugins and it's a also really good way to run AU plugins to free up CPU. Anyone using any other sequencer than LOGIC should buy this. Anyone playing live should buy this. It's access to the best part of the LOGIC experience. It's always been stable for me, even when running it via IAC on the same machine.

JMP1986!
The actual app is great. However if you are running a slightly older OS it won't let you update. This means you can not access new features and improved performance. I called Apple support to see if I could upgrade to a higher version supported by my OS which includes the new features I want and was told this was not possible. However I am able to do this with other apps such as Xcode. Very dissapointing. I do not want to upgrade my OS as a musician as when I have in the past it has wiped my whole machine, resulting in weeks of trying to set the mac up again in the same way for music production and performance. Ironically the only way I can see to upgrade my version of mainstage is to illegally download a copy at the version number I need - that is stupid Apple!
