Recently, I have been searching for apps compatible with my iPad to take notes and revise efficiently for my upcoming GCSEs. A friend recommended “goodnotes”, however when I downloaded this app I was appalled to discover I was expected to pay £30 to unlock practically anything!! Not to mention the app wasn’t even compatible with my iPad due to it being an earlier make. I was really disappointed, and kept looking, when I found “freenotes”. I was super sceptical at first, because it literally seemed to have the same features as goodnotes but for FREE. I am still waiting for the catch or my notes to dissapear or something, I am just so amazed at how this is free! part of me really wants to gatekeep this app it is just SO good. You get unlimited pages and notebooks, folders etc of plain, lined, gridded and dotted paper. You can even adjust the scale of the grids, lines and dots and change the size of the page too. You get infinite pens, as well as highlighters, and quite literally infinite colours too. I can even scan my books onto the app and place the copies in folders or notebooks to later annotate as many times as I want. This app has quite literally saved my life and I cannot thank the creators enough. It is just so amazing and I would definitely pay to use it, so download it whilst it’s still free! (Seriously though, you need to start charging for this app it’s AMAZING). Also you can pay like £6 to get rid of ads but personally I don’t think it’s worth it because I use this app for hours a day and only get like one pop up ad a day which you can close down immediately. Seriously guys not sponsered or being payed to write this at all I just really want to thank the creators because free notes really is THAT good. I wish I discovered this app sooner. Thank you!! 💗
EXTRAORDINARY

I have now been using this app for 3 months and I think it's incredible. From the different writing tools to the ruler & angle tools, everything in this app is easily accessible and I think even without a membership, it is fantastic. Unfortunately without a membership you can only make up to 3 notes, which still gives you a chance to explore the app’s features and resources, but does not allow you to fully express your creativity and doesn’t provide infinite notes so that you can have organised notes all in one app. You can always just use the whiteboard which is infinite, but you’d have to scroll or swipe to find things, making it unorganised and unsatisfactory, hence the 4 star rating I have given. One thing to note is if you wish to zoom below 10% and use the lock feature, it does not work. If you attempt doing this, it will go back to 10% and only then can you continue. The app is great, and on a whole fantastic, easily accessible, little time needed to navigate and learn about its features thanks to the welcome to Freenotes slide that appears upon first access, and thanks to the toolbar that can be customised by the user, however there most certainly are rooms for improvement, just a little push is needed for this to be a 5 star app. I hope you enjoy using this app, I highly recommend it!
Highly recommend

Downloaded the app because I wanted an alternative to Notability who increased their subscription price this year. Admittedly, I didn’t have high expectations but the app is basically perfect. It does what I want it to do (let me take notes from lectures) and more (AI feature, expanded note taking area, video feature so I can watch my lecture at the same time). The main reason why I stuck with notability for so long was because it was so responsive to the double tap undo function, and the highlighting tool doesn’t cover up the text. It seems minor but Freenote is the only other app that manages to do this! After my subscription with notability is over, I will most likely migrate to this app. The only feature that I think could be improved on is allowing us to save brush/pencil sizes and colour so it’s easily accessible (for example, if you select the pencil tool, there’s a dropdown box with saved colours and size that we can switch between). If the developers could implement that feature, I’d be over the moon!
Best App for Students

I have never actually written a review on any app because I have never really felt compelled to. This app has truly saved my grades and also saved me lots and lots of time. This app is simple with everything you need in a note taking app but delivers in quality. The best thing about this app personally is the import feature because it’s so useful to answer exam questions and download lecture slides ahead of lesson so I am more prepared. No unnecessary ads that distract me while I’m working and I don’t need to pay for the bare minimum. In fact, there isn’t an app that is close to this app in terms of its quality. I really recommend this app for not just students but anyone who, like me cannot afford to pay lots of money for the bare minimum in a note taking app or anyone who is looking for a good quality simple note taking app. This app is truly a game changer.
