mood.camera is a point-and-shoot camera that captures natural photos full of character, straight out of your iPhone, without any editing. Instead of chasing ever-sharper and perfectly exposed images, mood.camera focuses on making photography fun and giving your photographs soul.
The custom image processing pipeline gives you photos with realistic film grain, cinematic halation and a rich colour palette. mood.camera also has no live "filter" preview or editing tools within the app, encouraging you to enjoy taking photos without worrying about flipping between effects or making the perfect edit.
mood.camera wasn't built to evoke nostalgia, it was built to bring character and serendipity back to the mobile photography experience.

EXPRESSIVE COLOUR EMULATION
Each of the 14 colour emulations have been meticulously crafted to give every photo character and a rich colour palette.
FILMIC DYNAMIC RANGE
Naturally compressed shadows and highlights create images with more contrast, more atmosphere, and a look that feels closer to film.
REALISTIC FILM GRAIN
Film grain algorithms modelled on the physical development process, add texture and physicality to your photos whilst retaining detail.
CUSTOM PRESETS
Add a touch of warmth to your favourite preset, or start from scratch to create an original style.
NEXT LEVEL PORTRAITS
Combined with mood.camera's filmic characteristics, portrait mode gives you photos with smoother object separation and convincing bokeh. (Available on iPhone 11 or newer).
CINEMATIC HALATION
Using the iPhone’s dynamic range gain map to accurately identify the brightest highlights, creating a realistic halation effect. (Available on iPhone 12 or newer).
CUSTOM FRAMES
Elevate your photos with a custom frame, automatically added when you snap a photo.
LESS TWEAKING, MORE SNAPPING
Mirroring the classic film camera experience, there is no live preview of your selected film, letting you focus on capturing the moment instead of flipping between filters. After each capture, the element of suspense as you reveal the processed photo is another nod to the analog experience.
INTUITIVE CONTROLS FOR CREATIVITY
At its core, mood.camera is designed to echo the ease of use of a point-and-shoot camera but retains some controls to inspire creativity and personal expression:
- Set the default focal lengths for each lens, giving you quick access to your favourites.
- An on-screen exposure dial, makes it easy to achieve different styles with under and over exposed images.
- Select from multiple aspect ratios to suit the scene.
- An optional grid & level indicator gives you confidence when composing.
- High resolution 24MP photos on compatible devices. (Available on iPhone 14 Pro, 15 Pro & 16 Pro).
- Customise the dynamic range of your camera. (Available on iPhones capable of ProRaw capture).

“Mood has filled the biggest hole in my photography life, which is spur of the moment, day to day scenes when I shouldn’t even be thinking of taking photos. Even with my “real” camera at home, Mood allows me to capture the little moments with nothing but my phone and some inspiration.“ - Cole, professional photographer.

I’m a keen photographer who always struggles to choose what camera to take with me every day and when travelling. Discovering Mood has been a total game-changer. As the app says, it provides the convenience of a phone camera with the atmosphere of a film camera or digital camera + lightroom presets. To be able to select not only the film simulation, but (in effect) ISO for a cleaner or grainier look, exposure, plus variants (dynamic, smooth, calm etc) plus a focal length for super creamy backgrounds/bokeh in portraits is absolutely fantastic. It even has my favourite Xpan crop ratio of 1:2.7 for amazing landscape panoramas. Whether you just want to ‘point and shoot’ with some character in your snaps or take your time to consider the context and fiddle with the settings, Mood will deliver way, WAY more characterful photos than the over bright and sharpened images of an iphone. I also use the Leica LUX app (being a Leica owner and fan) which is also great, but £1.99 per month for Mood vs £5.99 for Leica LUX - Mood is a bargain and even has the option for a lifetime purchase for not much more. I hope this app developer gets the following he deserves for developing what I think is the best film simulation camera app out there.
Fantastic but a couple requests

The app is fantastic and really does bring joy to using the iPhone camera. It’s all designed extremely well. For it to become the ultimate “daily camera”, it would be fantastic if there was some sort of preview when taking the pictures so you can see how the filter will affect it. Also, and I understand the reasoning why this isn’t a priority, but it would be really nice to be able to run photos through the filters after taking them from the photo album (for older pictures taken before the app). It’s the one thing I really would love to see, even if there’s a toggle to turn it on/off to retain the principle of the app
Now my default camera

I’ve been an early adopter for a bunch of camera apps over the years, including Halide and the like. I love the ability to fiddle, but often I just want to capture the moment that I’m personally in,, without getting lost in my phone. £8 for a lifetime unlock is an absolute steal for this. There’s something intrinsically whimsical about mood’s workflow and the attention to detail on the film emulations, especially the adjustable dynamic range and accurate light bleed or halo effect that makes phone photography fun again for the first time in years. If this processing was available in a dedicated hardware device with Xenon flash like the Flashback camera, I’d buy it in an instant. Pun very much intended! I strongly recommend rolling with the default settings, but adding some of the extra film types from the website. Then just get out there and experiment with the frame sizes and find your favourite. No chimping!
Brings the fun back to shooting
Dan Wadham
I began using this camera app to achieve that filmic, retro look, and it achieves that amazingly. But the more I used it the more I began to appreciate shooting to capture the moment and not for the edit. It’s not all about capturing that perfect shot in full RAW and reclaiming details that no one else bar yourself would even notice. You shoot, capture the moment and carry on. Fantastic camera app to change how you approach capturing photos, makes it fun again, no massive backlog requiring editing. 10/10, would buy lifetime again.
Bug fixes & performance improvements.
