Had been using Private LLM, with poor results by and large, on an iPad Pro (8Gb RAM) and MacBook Pro (18Gb RAM), both fairly new. So I took a punt on Enclave. I’m running just the Llama models available from direct download, flawlessly. The only issue has been that voice chat isn’t working on my MacBook, but that is possibly a problem with MacOS and not the app, since dictation isn’t working. This is a fantastic app, faultless execution, great interface, clearly crafted out of love. Very professional.

Using AI locally and privately is incredibly useful, and Enclave stands out as one of the better options. While there are other local, private AI apps available on the Mac, both from the App Store and open source, I’ve found myself using Enclave more frequently.A particularly useful feature is the ability to integrate Enclave with Shortcuts to perform automations that can be executed locally. Keeping this all private opens up more options.Of course, you’ll need a fairly modern Mac with sufficient memory and to have chosen a suitable LLM model for your needs. However, Enclave offers a variety of models to download. One significant advantage for me has been the ability to use different size models for various Shortcuts. I use smaller models for basic tasks, while larger models handle more complex Shortcuts.While Enclave isn’t perfect, there are times when a massive cloud LLM or ChatGPT is simply the best option. Additionally, the app could do with some UI improvements and features, particularly parity with the iOS version, as I feel local LLMs shine on a modern Mac.

Was looking for an app similar to LM Studio for on my iPhone, and after trying Enclave it works fantastic and gives you a massive range of local LLM’s to choose from and you can also download even more from HuggingFace within the app. Everything works great and has a nice UI too, I will definitely be sticking with Enclave from now on as it has everything I need. Highly recommend this app to anyone who is looking to run local LLM’s on their device!
