Good but could be better

Not a bad tool but could be alot better. The actual values section is very lacking, this bit needs so much more info in it like DPF values.

Developer Response
Thank you for the honest feedback — we’re sorry the tool hasn’t fully met your expectations in this area.We understand what you mean about the Actual Values section, especially for things like DPF data. More detailed live data can make a big difference when diagnosing or confirming a repair. We’ll pass this feedback to our product and software team so they can keep improving the coverage and data display in future updates. We really appreciate you taking the time to point this out.

Unfortunately, the TOPDON CarPal OBD scanner and its software do not work well for me.The only thing that happens is the loading animation with the rotating balls, and then nothing. I also found out that the app requires an internet connection on my phone, but the system doesn't make this clear.Where I live, there is no mobile network reception, and my car is outside the Wi-Fi range, so I have to keep running between the house and the car just to use the app.We have three cars in our household: a Toyota, a BMW and a Hyundai. I have to download separate manufacturer data packages for each one. Why is this necessary when I only want to read and clear fault codes? For example, the BMW package is around 1.6 GB, which seems completely excessive for such a basic function.I downloaded the data packages for all three manufacturers. I was able to read the faults on my 2001 BMW X5 once, but after that I couldn't get it to work properly again. The app is also far too complicated. I don't understand why it keeps searching for the OBD dongle when it is already connected. It wastes a lot of time, and everything happens extremely slowly, when it works at all.I bought this scanner because I wanted something simple: connect it to the car, read the fault codes and clear them. Instead, the software makes the whole process unnecessarily complicated and frustrating. For me, the hardware and software are unfortunately not fit for purpose.

We understand your concerns regarding the internet connection requirement, the size of the manufacturer data packages, repeated dongle searching, slow response, and the overall complexity of the app when you only want to perform basic functions such as reading and clearing fault codes. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and frustration caused, and thank you again for your detailed feedback and understanding.

For a cheap OBDII scanner this one is quite detailed and has many features that my old one doesn’t. You can immediately search what the fault codes are too. The live running feature is especially useful. Thank you Topdon for a great budget friendly product.
