Created by artists for artists, ZBrush for iPad offers many of the same tools and features found in ZBrush's desktop version used by the professionals in film, game, concept art, toys, collectibles, jewelry, automotive, aviation, product design and so much more, including the collection of leading, proprietary digital sculpting brushes created with real-world sculpting techniques in mind.
Begin your creations with our extensive library of base models, or utilize our advanced photogrammetry feature to scan real-world objects and seamlessly integrate them into ZBrush.
Our Pro Projects library allows you to observe how a Seasoned Professional works in ZBrush by accessing and loading the files provided in the Pro Projects library.
Traditional low polygon modeling workflows allow the user to create with ease in low polygons with our ZModeler and Retopo brushes.
The Surface Noise feature allows you to effortlessly add intricate patterns to your model, whether utilizing an image or the NoiseMaker curve. You can easily adjust the size, orientation, and repetition of the pattern through a dynamic and user-friendly interface.
ZBrush for iPad includes:
- Over 200 of ZBrush's leading digital sculpting brushes and the ability to easily load the thousands of custom brushes that have been created by ZBrush users.
- A highly customizable user interface that expands on the desktop version's QuickMenu, making it easy to arrange sculpting tools for a more optimized, personal experience. In addition, users can customize the bottom toolbar to include their favorite brushes, materials, textures and alphas. Customize your Apple Pencil double tap or Pencil Pro squeeze to complete an action.
- Similar high polygon details as ZBrush desktop, depending on iPad device. The latest M4 iPad with at least a one terabyte (TB) hard drive, for example, can reach up to 90+ million polygons per mesh.
- Innovative UI design makes it possible to take advantage of Apple's user-friendly touch capabilities and jump right into sculpting, especially for new users. Gesture controls for common features, such as draw size, focal shift, undos and redos, help streamline workflow.
- Seamless file sharing for ZBrush subscribers who want to move ZTool (ZTL) and ZProject (ZPR) files between iPad and desktop. GoZ can also be used to move files between versions with one click.
- ZRemesher generates a new mesh with an even distribution of polygons, preserving the essential details and flow of the original surface.
- Sculptris Pro adds and reduces triangle tessellation with each brush stroke, making it simple to focus on sculpting without worrying about technical restraints.
- DynaMesh retopologizes while sculpting, so it’s possible to stretch digital clay or add volume while retaining the same basic capacity for detail.
- Array Mesh makes it possible to create duplicate instances of geometry in varying patterns and shapes in real time.
- The Dynamics system enhances sculpts by allowing any surface to be draped over another surface.
- Live Boolean gives users the ability to combine, subtract, and/or use intersections to create unique results.
- PolyPaint makes it easy to paint and sculpt at the same time, making it possible to paint on the surface of a model without first assigning a texture map.
Early day review but the 5 issues I’ve encountered so far are as follows:1 - app kept crashing when subdiving a sphere to test subdiving limits. After multiple crashes I gave up.2- UI menus kept glitching out and jump around in the screen.(restarting fixes the issue)3 - sending files to desktop takes a few attempts to find my computer even with a high speed internet connection. ( after a few taps of export and closing the window it eventually shows )4 - after painfully importing multiple custom brushes 1 by 1, I closed the app, only to discover all the custom brushes had disappeared while displaying “unavailable” in the menu bars. ( By going through the tedious process of reimporting the brushes again and again and opening the menu customisation window it re-adds them to the bar… )5 - I keep getting asked to “upgrade” to use features like gos to pc, etc. even though I have the ZBrush pc bundle. ( Forcing me to logout of my account, and logging back in)

Hello zZ_Wipeout_Zz, Thank you for your review, we’re sorry to hear you’re experiencing issues with the app. To have your custom brushes automatically loaded on launch, you can place them in the “ZStartup/BrushPresets” folder of your “On My iPad/ZBrush” directory, as the individual loading via the import menu only loads them for the duration of the session. The other issues you’re describing sound concerning and we’d love to hear more about them, could you please get in contact with our Support Team at https://www.maxon.net/en/support-center. We’re here to help and look forward to resolving this for you.
Good but not yet polished
zhokz
A decent program that closely resembles the desktop version, which is a big advantage. However, there are several drawbacks that significantly affect the experience for me.The biggest issue is the subscription model. Since it is not a perpetual license, the app requires an internet connection to access all features. I specifically bought Portable ZBrush to use during long flights, so I was surprised to discover that many of the full features are unavailable offline.Another limitation is the inability to assign custom hotkeys to custom menus in the portable version. Custom menus simply do not appear in the list of assignable options. In addition, although you can assign hotkeys to existing menus, pressing the same hotkey again does not toggle the menu off, which feels very inconvenient. There is also an issue with selecting specific brushes while holding Ctrl or Ctrl+Shift on a keyboard. To choose a masking brush, you often need to tap it several times with the Apple Pencil before it works correctly. This problem does not occur when using the on-screen wheel or when selecting brushes with a finger.Overall, the app has strong potential and does a good job bringing the desktop ZBrush experience to iPad, but these usability issues make the workflow feel less polished than it could be.
Great App, But Missing a Key Feature for Sculpting
Ank0975
The app runs really smoothly and new ui is user friendly. I’ve been using ZBrush on desktop for 7 years and was excited for it to come to the iPad Pro. However, I’m disappointed that I can’t find the layers feature to record my sculpting or edit pre-recorded layers from my previous files. I rely on this for my daily workflow and hope to see it in future updates.
Finally!

15 years to finally get this on the iPad. I bought m2 last year to use Nomad as it was a good entry to sculpting. I’ve used zbrush on the desktop for several years on and off and found the UI too hard to learn. On the iPad this problem no longer exits you’ve done an amazing job of making it much more intuitive. It’s amazing that we live in the age of doing this from the couch. Great app and I can’t wait for ZModeller to arrive. This app is only going to get better.
