Innovation Trend Follower
After months of searching for something to aggregate news into effective, impactful alerts based on my interests, I came across Particle. I have spent some time customising the application, and I have to say its fantastic, not only does it find and aggregate the news I want to read, but it also condenses it into bite size chunks allowing me to take more in each day around fast paced industry insights. Integrates well with notifications and is extensive, now I don’t need to trawl hundreds of websites to stay up to date, Particle does it for me.

I wrote a long paragraph so here’s a TLDR: •News Feed Customization: The main menu/feed is customizable and can be set up to consistently show desired news.•Notification Issues: The notification algorithm needs improvement, sending too many notifications and not aligning with user preferences.•App Functionality: Swiping back on news articles sometimes breaks the app, requiring a full restart.For the news that I genuinely want to see, this app is fantastic. The main menu/feed is quite good, but it took me a few hours to set it up to consistently deliver the news I want to see. However, the notifications and the way the algorithm handles them are lacking, which is why I can’t fully embrace this app yet.Using the app is great, but getting over 60 notifications just because something I mentioned wanting notifications for was mildly referenced can become quite annoying quickly. Additionally, it seems like all the effort you put into customizing the news feed to match my preferences doesn’t apply to the notifications about those same topics, which is quite frustrating.I love using Particle, and I’m already inclined to use the app when I have time so that I don’t receive excessive notifications. I’d prefer just one or two notifications every so often.Another recurring issue is that swiping back on a news article doesn’t always work, and it can even completely break the app, forcing me to restart it.I genuinely hope that the notifications for the news I’ve selected are more tailored to my interests and that I receive significantly fewer notifications compared to what I currently receive.I’m also a bit confused about how the app remains completely free while incorporating AI features. While I’m not complaining, I want to ensure that this app has a long-term viability, especially considering the cost of AI APIs.

Particle allows you to read a bunch of websites via AI moderated summaries.It also uses an AI voice to read the articles summaries out to you.Once you start playing the audio, there’s no way to stop it.No matter how many times you tell it that you’re not interested in a topic, it creates other sub topics which it then expects you to dig around find and rate. At which point it creates more subtopics so it can still keep showing you the things you’ve just told it you don’t want to see.There are no settings for fonts or font size, so if your eyesight isn’t up to the tiny tiny default text well you should’ve just had better eyesight - Particle isn’t for people who can’t see great. You don’t need news.But other than the £30 per year subscription so that you can have the AI rewrite the article articles using a prompt, so you’re never quite sure what’s real and what’s hallucinated, and also change the colour of the icon… Yeah it’s an absolutely mediocre experience. Love the way you can’t open the original site in full screen or share it to… anything else. Two stars.
