LEARN. QUIZ. EXPLORE.
SaltShack Minerals combines learning, richly illustrated articles and collection tools in one app. Work through hundreds of bite-sized lessons covering mineralogy, geology and Earth science, reinforce your knowledge with quizzes, track your progress and develop a deeper understanding of our planet. Whether you're identifying your first mineral or expanding an established collection, there is always something new to discover.
MINERAL REFERENCE
Explore 273 detailed mineral profiles featuring high-quality photography, physical properties, crystal systems, geological context, history and real-world uses. Browse minerals, save favourites and test your knowledge with a dedicated quiz for each one.
EARTH SCIENCE LIBRARY
Access 368 pages covering minerals, rocks, geology and Earth science. Learn how minerals and rocks form, and how geological processes shape the world around us. Content is organised into short, accessible sections designed to be read in just a few minutes.
QUIZZES AND CHALLENGES
Test yourself with more than 300 quizzes covering minerals, geology and Earth science. Earn points, build streaks and unlock additional challenge modes as you progress. From mineral identification to challenging quizzes that draw on everything you’ve learned, each activity reinforces your understanding and highlights where to focus next.
COLLECTION CATALOGUE
Build and manage a detailed digital catalogue of your mineral collection. Add specimen photographs, record localities, catalogue numbers, notes and custom fields, and organise everything in a searchable collection.
Already have your collection in a spreadsheet? Import existing records directly from CSV files. Spreadsheet columns are automatically matched to existing collection fields, with new custom fields created where needed. You can import specimens without photographs and add images later.
Export your collection as a CSV spreadsheet or a beautifully formatted PDF catalogue, ideal for sharing, printing or managing your records elsewhere.
Keep your collection safe with comprehensive backup and restore tools. Back up your entire collection, including photographs, specimen information, notes and custom fields, and easily transfer everything between devices — even when switching between iPhone and Android.
Create beautiful, professional printable labels for your specimens, including designs featuring specimen photographs. Customise fonts, borders, logos and collection details, then preview, save or print your labels as accurately sized A4 PDFs.
FOR COLLECTORS, STUDENTS AND THE CURIOUS
Use SaltShack Minerals as a reference guide, study companion and home for your collection. Learn at your own pace, develop practical geological knowledge and gain a deeper understanding of the minerals, rocks and processes that shape our planet.
NOTE
SaltShack Minerals is a mineral education and collection app, not a rock identification app.
It is designed to help users learn about minerals, crystal structures, geology, gemstone science and mineral formation through educational content, quizzes and collection management tools. Users can also build and catalogue their own digital mineral collection.
While the app teaches the principles of mineral identification, it does not identify rocks or minerals from photos and does not use AI or image recognition.
I have never had such an informative, interactive app. Great way of learning about minerals and crystals. I’ve always found it hard to identify what I have in the collection. Now I can ID them and even learn about the chemical composition in a fun and interactive way. Thank you Saltshack!
