Easy, effective, surprisingly cheap

The point of this app is to let you offset your personal carbon footprint with a monthly subscription, and it makes it very easy to calculate how much that is and to set up the payments. It took me about 10 minutes to set it up and I wouldn’t have needed to open it ever again, but I do go on to see the totals for trees planted and so on because it’s pretty neat to see. The app is beautiful but that’s beside the point really.

I’ve left this review having read two people complaining about fees (have they done any research into UK charities? 30% is low and 2/3rds of that is going on activities that are considered charity ie education and promotion of the green cause) and a third that seems to be demanding we bring down the capitalist system. I’m not sure which system the third person thinks made their iPhone but I’m certain that paying for offsets is a positive thing to do.

Simple and well thought out

Really like that people behind this app have done the return on investment well enough to plan out that 20% marketing spend will have a bigger impact than passing 100% through for projects. My aim is to try and help as much as possible so encouraging to see the work being done properly.
It could be improved with an option to more accurately estimate your carbon footprint as process is quite rudimentary. Equally was easy to do while sat on a train so can see how there is a balance. Would be cool to have an option to add more info to fine tune view and understand options to reduce

Carbon footprint- if you are exactly them

Is the fact you try to reduce your meat the same as actually reducing meat? Or having a car but using a bike more of the time? Or renewable energy versus producing your own.
How about frugal shopping; - I.e I still wear clothes from my twenties. And buy rarely. But still that is an entire tonne!!!
I don’t think this is actually for someone who takes the concept of reduce before offsetting seriously.
I have received feedback for this review implying that being a bit more accurate would judge my lifestyle. However they aim to connect me with climate initiatives.
Still we should be reducing before we offset and some there would be more finance for even better and more local schemes. I am still not impressed with the approach this app is taken and not helping the challenge of climate action in the right way

Hi there! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Klima is not meant to judge on peoples lifestyles or represent their lifes 100% accurately. That is simply not possible due to the high amount of assumptions that goes into any modern climate science. Our carbon calculator is meant as guidance on selecting the right amount to offset by providing a good estimation. No more, no less. Even if you live a climate friendly life you may want to convert some of your 'resource money' into direct climate action by funding our wonderful projects. Our mission is to connect people with the best climate initiatives out there — not label your life as good or bad. With that context in mind, please consider your rating.
