The line between instant messaging and social media is becoming a bit fuzzy—and that’s a great thing. Line offers free texting, voice messages and video calls, all within its own nifty social network. With the app’s uncluttered, friendly interface, it’s simple to start group chats with close friends, receive notifications from celebrities you follow or post daily highlights to your timeline. Tons of adorable virtual stickers give your messages added spark, and Line even integrates with select games and apps, letting you effortlessly share your achievements and creations.
Terrible support and back up system
I've already lost my line chat history once because unlike other apps it didn't used to automatically back up your data and had to be done manually (which I didn't realise before logging into a new phone and thus lost everything).
Now although it back ups automatically it's such a pain to transfer data, and their support is completely clueless on their own processes. I tried to restore my chats on my new phone once, which worked but all my chats were encrypted and got stuck on "decrypting" or letter sealing, so I tried again and found it kept telling me I had no chat history. I logged in on my old phone again and backed up my chats again, successfully, but for some reason my new phone couldn't find it. I tried all their support steps, updating my new phone, keeping icloud logged in and the drive on, restarting my phone, reinstalling the app etc. And eventually they just tell me if I don't have a backup I can't get my chats back. Useless.
I ended up finding out myself that both phones need to be on the same version of iOS, so that includes updating the old phone too or keeping the new one on the same old version as the other phone. And it took me so long to be able to work this out where line knew nothing. Such a nightmare to transfer data unlike whatsapp which is so much easier to just log in and be done. Line is also missing many updated and modern text app features... quite outdated and hard to use compared to other apps.
ID verification and New Friends
It’s not possible to add people by ID without verification, and verification is only allowed by using particular service providers - not good!
The other issue I have with Line is that the Recent Friends tab only opens for a minute. If you add a few people at the same time, by the time you get round to messaging them they’re all gone. And good luck finding them again if for any reason their picture is of their cat, and/or their name is set as an emoticon. In a party situation etc this is VERY annoying and has led me to losing important business contacts etc.
Line is not new, these easy and obvious issues should have been fixed YEARS ago. Don’t you have a product manager?
