Description

Magium is a text adventure game similar to old Choose your own story books (CYOA), in which you play as an ordinary guy named Barry, who joins a deadly mage tournament against the most powerful mages in the world in the hopes of using the prize to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a mage himself.

As in all interactive novels, your choices will affect the story, and making wrong choices can even lead to your death. Besides the traditional choice making of regular Choose your own story games, Magium also has stats that you can upgrade with points that you will receive occasionally, throughout the game. These stats will be checked by the game from time to time, to see if they are high enough to allow you to perform certain actions. For example, if your ancient languages stat is high enough, you can understand what animals and monsters are saying.

The story of Magium starts at the beginning of the tournament, right after you and all the other participants were transported to the continent where the contest was taking place.

As the story progresses, you will meet with other participants, you will make friends and enemies, and you will find out more about the continent you are on, and its inhabitants. You will find out that a person called "The Creator" had established several utopias in this place, six hundred years ago, where animals and humans lived in harmony, and food was created through magic. What you will get to see, however, is the downfall of these utopias, some of them being on the brink of destruction. Your choices will influence what happens in these cities, and you can even choose to save them if you so desire.

The main story of the game will be divided into five books, each of them consisting of more than a hundred thousand words.

The first book is now available in its entirety, and it can be played for free, with ads. It is approximately 178k words long, which translates to about 700 book pages. This number also takes into account the story's branching paths. The length of a playthrough on average should be about 90k words, so about 350 book pages.

The second book is also available in its entirety, . Unlike the first book, the second one will need to be unlocked before it can be played, and it will be the same for the next books as well. In order to unlock the second book, you will either need to complete 25 of the 35 available achievements, or pay to remove the ads for the first book.

The second book is 277k words in total, on all paths, which translates to about 1100 book pages. On one path, you should be seeing around half of those words, so roughly 140k, which would translate to 550 book pages or so.

The third book has just been completed, but the next books have not been written yet, and they will be published chapter by chapter, as I write them.

Book 3 is around 445k words in total, on all paths, so around 1500 book pages of content.

pretty good

first things first, whilst writing this review it’s pretty important to know that i’ve just finished book 1 and i haven’t started to gather achievements. i do think that the whole ‘gather achievements to move on’ thing is pretty cool to be honest, but i can see how it could annoy someone.
the actual story is interesting. i like the idea and its executed pretty well, in my opinion. i don’t want to spoil too much, so i can’t go into too much detail, but the moments where there’s a battle i always feel on edge and genuinely feel as though i have to think to overcome problems. there are so many likeable characters (and unlikeable), each of them unique in their own ways so i never feel as though the characters muddle up with each other without a visual guide (which i usually struggle with). my favourite character is eiden simply because i absolutely adore characters who are hella overpowered.
the only downfall which affects me is the save and load feature since i’ll forget to save and then i’ll die and have to restart from a faraway point from the story and it’s kinda annoying to redo all my choices.

TLDR; good story, great characters, most choices feel meaningful, no need to pay to finish the series, 👍

The Best Text Adventure I’ve ever Played

To be honest, it’s actually been a long time since I’ve played this game. I finished when the developer had only written up to about chapter 2 of book 2 and even then I loved this game. I plan on playing through from the beginning once again, but even from my memory this game is amazing. I play a lot of these kinds of games from Hosted Game and Choice of games (personal favourite of those is “Gladiator: Road to the Colosseum”) but this app eclipses anything I’ve played in terms of choose your own adventure.

But enough about that. The lore is actually quite rich in this game and you can tell a lot of thought has been put into it. The plot is interesting and keeps you gripped, the characters are cool and enjoyable to play with, and the choices give a lot of variety. If whomever wrote this ends up reading this, absolutely marvellous job! Even though you physically play Barry he is still somehow a charismatic character to me haha.

I’d really recommend playing this if you’re into these sorts of games, this at the very least will be in your top 5 I guarantee it.

Incredible game and story!

I’m really enjoying the storyline of the game while the characters are all likeable. I’ve played it a lot and have finished up to where it’s been written(Book 3 Ch.5 as of now). It is good the pass the time, and barely drains battery. I’m engrossed in this game and like how there are lots of options given to the player and the decisions made can affect it later on in the game. I am really glad you decided to make all the game achievable for free and gave the option to unlock the next books through achievements though I probably would pay for it if I had to. I cannot really think of any criticism now so well done.
