What’s rather brilliant about this app is that as long as your phone memory isn’t too restricted, you can download all the maps to your phone, thus you’re not reliant on connection or having any internet usage left at a time when you may rather need directions. It also had the benefit of having the world map split up, not only into individual countries, but the individual countries are further divided up into numerous smaller areas and most likely popular areas, like the capital cities and such. So you can only download the specific area that you need when you need it, or like me, you can download the entire map when you have a good Wi-Fi connection, transfer it to your pc, laptop or cloud storage, and then transfer it back as and when you need it. If you get an emulator or if you have a Mac then you can also use it on your desktop without any internet connection.As for features, well, you can create custom lists of places you have been or that you will be going to. You can choose the units of measurements, look at buildings in 3D to help you find your destination and act as landmarks or way markers. You can add bookmarks, turn a handy set of zoom buttons on or off, translate foreign place names into usefully pronounceable Latin (English) place names and calibrate the built in compass to make sure that you’re on track. It also comes with 25 languages so that it can give you verbal instructions and directions in all the major languages like, English, French, Spanish, Russian, Italian, German, Dutch, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, Urdu, Arabic, Turkish, Danish, Swedish, Romanian, Polish and others. It also comes with auto zoom, auto download, night mode and perspective view features. All in all it’s a beautiful app. If they could just add a wallet, keys, car and phone locator feature to it then it’d be absolutely perfect :) :P

Brilliant maps but not yet reliable for routes

Not only streets but also landmarks such as bus stops, railway stations, restaurants, museums, even house numbers, are all there and searchable (but not yet postcodes / zipcodes). The search process takes some getting used to: you have to locate the town first, then the place. The routing has always been dubious at best. It only offers one option for driving and it is rarely the best. Walking routes are hopeless: I have tried several I know well and it usually tries to take me through locked gates and private property.

Brilliant maps but not yet reliable for routes

Update 2021: Oh dear. Using this via Bluetooth to my bike helmet I’ve realised that it has a serious problem with roundabouts - although on-screen routing is correct, it sometimes (often) counts exits anti-clockwise instead of clockwise, meaning the voice directions will be saying “take the first exit” when the actual onscreen route is showing the opposite direction (3rd exit). It gets the wrong number of exits on some roundabouts too (tonight I had “take the 4th exit” at a 3 exit roundabout!). This makes the spoken turn-by-turn useless.My Previous Reviews (from years gone by):Last night I got lost in Korea (first day in Suwon, at night it all looked very different) - so when I finally got back to the hotel, I downloaded this. And it's superb - does exactly what you want. Downloaded the whole map of Korea with routing (79M - not bad) on the hotel wifi, set a few favourite locations (the hotel, the HQ of a well known Korean electronics company, etc), and no more problems - a life saver when you leave the office at 11pm. Recommended to anyone travelling to far flung places (Korea might have near-magical mobile networks for the locals, but for "Foreigners" it's well expensive - like 20 times more expensive than the UK, so this is the best thing ever). Update: Saved me again, this time in Cyprus. Hoping it's as good when I fly out to San Francisco at the weekend....

It is great because it works offline and it is free however the route offered for cycling are often wrong and unusable. I had cases in France and Latin America for instance where it would offer me huge detours for no reason. If there is a road I don’t need to cycle along that road in the bushes going up and down on the hills next to it? And when he offered a staircase instead of following the normal road winding up the mountain? Or giving me the option to use a downhill extremely steep descent on the bed of a torrent? Very odd.And it is probably not optimised for the iPhone mini because on the graph of the altitude there is a big button covering most of it!The worst part however is that since I upgrade the spammy advertising gets worse. Every time I open the app there is a fox greeting me with some bull I don’t even read because I’m trying to close it and I’m cycling! Now there is an even one with some kind of credit card they are offering. Makes no sense. Why would I order a credit card through this app? Beats me!They ask me for feedback and it is prepopulated with 5 stars already so when I clicked I gave 5 stars feedback. Really? Just for this I take one star down my rating. This is a very dishonest practice!

What's new: - Added the ability to leave feedback on a generated route and report navigation issues; - Upon route completion, a screen displays the arrival point and an option to leave feedback; - Added an option in route settings to toggle the display of bike lanes; - Technical improvements and bug fixes.
