Midi Studio is a modular MIDI control surface for iPhone / iPod Touch / iPad.
It supports sending CoreMidi messages over a Wi-Fi network using the UDP protocol for sending and receiving MIDI messages.
The application allows to remote control and receive feedback from software and hardware that implement the MIDI protocols such as Apple Logic Pro/Express, Ableton Live, Max for Live, Cubase, Pro Tools, FL Loops and many others.
The interface provides a number of different touch controls to send and receive messages:
Faders / Rotary controls / Encoder controls / Push buttons / Toggle buttons / XY pads / LEDs / Labels, etc.

The best midi controller on iPad for synths/samplers
I've been using this for some time to control my hardware and vst synths, samplers and effects plugins via customised XY pads and other controllers. You build your own controller and configure them to use any midi CC number you wish, they can also send multiple CCs at the same time from each individual control. To my knowledge it is the best there is on the iPad for synths and samplers, I haven't tried it as a controller my DAW, there may be better more specialised options for that. Coupled with MusicIO and using the lightning connector instead of wifi it's virtually zero latency.
Good but editor is frustrating and basic
This is a nice app and does its basic function well however there is a lot of room for improvement.
There is little documentation on how to use the app other than making a midi connection to your computer. So learning what things do is trial and error.
App support is none existent. I asked some basic questions several days ago and have had no response. For a paid app I expect better.
Creating custom layouts is a great feature, and the main reason i bought the app, however it is a frustrating process. If the developers could only add one feature to this it would be a copy and paste function. It would save a lot of time. Some other nice features to have would be an undo function, auto arranging/spacing of objects in a container, some documentation on the logic of how tabs and containers work and the option of having a different background colour or image would be good too.
Oh and a forum on the developer website where users could share their layouts would be great.
