Rip and Tear!

I’ve not been a huge fan of ‘Top down’ games but, having played Doom since it first emerged in the 90s, I had to give this one a go… and I have to say I’m not disappointed.

There are some reviews that complain about the difficult game play. All I can say is they’re not playing the game right!

To those that are complaining about it being a cash cow… you’re not playing it right! I haven’t spent a penny on this… just been patient with the daily rewards, replayed levels to earn more currency and crystalsin order to upgrade. It’s a welcome change not to be bombarded with adverts after every stage of a level or in order to progress. Yes, the options are there for you to choose, but it’s not a requirement and it certainly doesn’t hinder gameplay.

The variety of weapons and gear is awesome and its a question of upgrading the right gear that gets results. I’ve played it every day from launch and have only just got to Level 7 through perseverance and determination! Personally I’m finding the Plasma Rifle, Rocket Launcher and Crucible Sword give the best results, but the trick is to upgrade as and when you can.

Beating Bosses is best performed by keeping behind them and throwing everything at them, swapping between all weapons as and when available. Looking forward to the next three levels and game completion.

Well done Bethesda and iD - I hope there will be other incarnations of this to come!

There’s no point in playing the game

As with many people, I initially thought this was an okay game and a bit of fun… but after reaching level 5, things went down hill quickly. There’s a massive difficulty curve which makes runs extremely hard on the gear you have by then. I tried multiple times but I never seemed to have enough health to get through. After trying to get through and using the little money I got from the end of runs (about 1-2K) I realised something… you don’t have to play the game. I got more currency from daily logins and Vega mining through out the day than I did from putting in 4 solid runs. And this has the added benefit of a time save over all.

The overall amount to level up items needs an overhaul. I only ever can have one gun upgraded at a time due to having several other items needing to be levelled up. This means a game that’s supposed to be about swapping out guns on the fly, now has me not even using any of the cool weapons. I think this could be fixed by instead of upgrading weapon damage, that’s down via the slayer upgrade and the gun choice then becomes a difference in gun or a difference in alt stat boost that it gives you for equipping it.

Many of the reviews on here seem to be of the first couple of hours played, which were good, but after that it really goes downhill. I may as well be playing cookie clicker at this stage.

Fun but has serious issues with energy

The game is good it’s fun to play works well lots of equipment to check out etc. but the biggest issue just like all other similar games is energy.. you can’t play the game for more than 10-20 minutes at most before you are out of energy with it taking roughly 1 hour to gain enough energy for 1 more run and if it goes wrong at all tough you just wasted that energy.

Given the difficulty increase as you get further it then takes longer to get to the strength required to beat that challenge, needing you to do upward of 10 runs to get the resources you need to upgrade your gear or improve the quality of the gear you have, it could be much much higher depending on your luck on getting the things you want/need and how difficult the stage is plus some rooms do feel cheap with traps/enemy placement.

In short it’s a decent game held back by mobile game flaws it’s a shame but I probably won’t be playing much more it’s not fun being stuck on the same level for days waiting for good RNG I wish I could play it more frequently to gather the resources sooner.
