Moleskine Notes 4+

The push to an upgraded app has run into so many issues - this has been going on for over a year now. With fewer features to 1.0. From the migration does not work, nor does the lack of recognising that the pen has been used to draft a number of additional notes to pages in the book. When syncing the pen - my notes hadn’t even been uploaded to the app. I may as well have just underspent and purchased a standard pen and paper at this rate. 1.0 was fine - only issue was with the sync to gdrive in its latter stages. Now both apps appear to have been rendered useless. I’ll continue with 1.0 until the upgrade is finally ready. I just hope its worth it when 1.0 is discontinued, otherwise - there will be a lot of customers migrating to other platforms.

Edit: this has been improved of late and although there appear to be fewer bugs and issues with the app and pen, there is still some work to be done on the conversion from handwriting to text formats. Maybe this will be improved overtime as my newer pen is getting used to my handwriting.

Please also note that one needs to upgrade their pen with this latest app as the old one doesn’t pick up everything on the tablet.

I used Livescribe before and am new to this set up. I’ve read some reviews here that are less than favourable. My experience so far is that it works and offers more features and an infinitely better experience than my last system’s app which was awful.

My teething issues:

1. There is half a page that didn’t upload to the phone (Some of which was used for calibration).
2. The pen had to be re-paired to the phone on my second use.

Feature request:

1. Ability to view pages in reverse to the current view, ie; oldest first.
2. Backup to iCloud instead of only Google or Microsoft as options.
3. The option to customise the use for the on paper envelope icon. Or, at least the option to choose email the pdf, email a transcription or both as an option in settings.

I haven’t used this system much yet as this was a gift from a friend but despite the pen feeling a little cheap on the whole it is already better than Livescribe’s set up. Mostly centred around the app, theirs is terrible this one works and offers more.

I will return to this review after more experience using the pen and app

The pen etc… I have is an older version that charges via mini usb despite being a brand new unopened writing set. So far, so good and I hope it stays this way, and if implemented, I would make good use of my suggested features.

The tech and the app are not what I would expect from a world class brand. Clearly
moving from traditional books for writing in, to a technology play has failed. The one thing it is designed to do - sync your pen with the app - it doesn’t do. My pen never completes a sync and therefore the data in the book is missing parts. Waste of money. Multiple upgrades still no solution.
