Description
MySQL / MariaDB Optimizer is an effective app that gives you recommendations to optimize MySQL / MariaDB databases. The app provides a graphical interface simplify the process of viewing performance metrics, apply changes based on our recommendations and all mysql slow query logs which are grouped by occurrence number.
***** This is the best Database Optimization software on App Store *****
Main Features:
- Performance Metrics (very useful info about your server and mysql)
- Slow Query that are already grouped so you can fix slow queries that have highest occurrence first.
- Option to Explain slow queries
- Error logs are available within Slow query main screen
- Recommendations tab is the app main function, where you see a list of issues and recommendations, where applicable you can set the value and just tick to apply new values.
- Mysql Advanced Variables Editor, so you can adjust MySQL even further
Things to consider when applying recommendations:
- When you apply changes MySQL service restarts so your web sites will be offline for couple seconds
- Make sure you understand the changes you make as in some cases they might not be suitable
- You can always revert changes by going to Backup/restore tab and select the version you want to revert to
- Once you apply some changes MySQL needs time to collect data again for new statistics and recommendations and while it's recommended to wait 24hours before applying more changes, the app will allow you to do it after 6hours
- using Standard MySQL connections you will not be able to make any changes (apply recommendations or edit variables) - that is only possible when using SSH Connection
Linux distributions supported (to add SSH servers):
- Ubuntu 14.04 (LTS), 14.10, 15.04, 15.10, 16.04, 16.10, 17.04

Ratings and Reviews
No use at all on MySQL 8.x
Total waste of time and money. Not only having a problem with not supporting the new password encyption method in modern MySQL but also crashes when you change the user to use the old supported encryption method.
Cheap junk.
Might be good but can
The latest fix has solved the initial stability issues that prevented use of the tool beyond the opening page.
I'm now running an initial 6 hour scan on a non-production (staging) 5.6 server on debian as I don't want to to risk live data. The staging DB run will give me a better underastanding of how this works and how accurate the reporting is.
One thing that is not working: saving. Neither the system variables page nor the slow query log pages appears to persist changes after a save. The account I am connecting with over ssh is in the sudoers group so should be ok. Anyway, making a change, saving, moving off the page and returning does not show the change. Nothing is appearing in the my.cnf Backup/Restore list page either.
So, great progress, but still a way to go to meet its potential. But full marks to the developer for working on this - this is not a trivial app at all and so is bound to have some growing pains. When it gets rids of the gremlins, it should be a very useful addition to the DBAs / DB dev's toolset
As the main purpose of the app is to be able to monitor for problems then apply solutions but the latter is not working at all yet, my rating goes up but only to 2* for now
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
The screenshots look good...
However, I can't actually test anything as it crashes whenever I try to enter my remote server details (which incidentally work fine in Workbench, Sequel Pro, Toad, etc)
You can also crash it by simply double clicking the large "+" (plus sign) background on the starting dialog.
When they sort out the stability issues, I'll revise my score upwards, but for now I can't rate it more than 1 star.
Note: Crash reports have been submnitted to Apple, but I don't know whether they pass these on to the developer. For their reference, it's the com.apple.main-thread that is being reported as crashing each time.
El Cap.
