Bug fixes and enhancements

At Google Nest, we make products that are beautiful, helpful and easy to use. The Nest app is no exception.

Control your Nest thermostat, arm and disarm your Nest Secure alarm system, see your home with Nest Cam and receive an alert if Nest Protect goes off – all in one place. And receive notifications on your iPhone or iPad.

Nest uses sensors, algorithms and the location of your phone to do the right thing automatically, turning off the heating and turning on the camera when you leave. Forgotten to set the alarm? It will notice, and send you a Remind me alert.

Best is best!

Theour previous smoke alarms which were always beeping. These talk to you and act as lights in conjunction with door sensors etc. I have imported a Nest Secure and 10 Detects and am very happy with them too but am a little worried that Google only now make new products available on the Google home app whereas the Nest app is much better and intuitive with all the cameras/Hellos displayed with all the systems on the front page. Nest cams iqs are very good too and this is a much more secure, exact and active alert regime compared to the previous system we had where even the police monitoring became useless. The Nest doorbell works well and the whole system integrates nicely. The video is recorded on the internet so is secure for 30 days which is enough for us. The system components aren’t cheap but in my view it’s worth it due to the quality and the way it integrates and records. Only four stars because I have to log on through the Google ID and then the Nest App can stutter a couple of times before running stably, which never happened before when I logged on directly to the Nest App. My fear is Google will stop supporting the Nest App at which point I will sell all their products and not have anything to do with them again if I can help it including the search engine!

Good app but needs some updates in the schedule.

My goal is to maximise my contribution to help the environment. Since I put the thermostat my energy consumption went down and that is a good sign. I have set a schedule to heat the water in a daily basis, as I don't have a combi boiler. I wish there was a setting to flick somewhere to override the default schedule mechanism and to be able to set the timer in minutes, as there's still plenty of wasted energy there I believe. For example, wanting to heat the water for 50 minutes instead of 1 hour would be beneficial with the same result. But you can't do that, as there are only segments of 30 minute intervals.
If everyone could have the option to do the same adjustments, then imagine how good that would be for emitting less gases to the atmosphere from all of us!
Therefore, when I receive the emails from Nest reporting my green leaves, it's quite contradicting, as I could definitely do better but the app doesn't let me.
Another suggestion is that the thermostat could measure the temperature in the house and adjust the schedule accordingly. For example, It needs more time to heat the water in the winter and less in the summer. Also, the app could ask us "how was your shower today?" [Too cold - Cold - Good - Hot - Too hot]. Thereafter, it would fine adjust itself daily after selecting one of the answers above. Ok, I'll stop writing more now ;) Thanks.

Great technology application to improve home safety

I have just installed 3 nest sensors in my home on various ceilings in line with the user guide recommendation. These devices are intelligent and connect to your smart phone via WiFi. So in addition to detecting smoke, carbon monoxide or steam, they also communicate any issues to your phone in addition to the audible alarms. These devices were straightforward to set up following simple to follow instructions. They are also easy to install onto a plastered ceiling requiring only a Philips screwdriver. The final unexpected delight is that at night time, each sensor detects a person as they approach it then providing a subtle downlight effect. I have a sensor on the upstairs landing ceiling which benefits from this useful feature if you need to get up during the night. I cannot recommend these modular safety devices highly enough. Now I have installed them, I feel that my home is now protected by a professional and comprehensive safety system. They even look good. Fabulous.
