Great content, one big (easy to fix) bug

[update] - thanks so much for fixing the bug! I can, finally, enjoy the NS on my iPhone. Thanks!

Excellent quality of journalism but it's infuriating to read on the app because scrolling down always gets misinterpreted as a sideways swipe. As someone with news app development experience myself, this is not a difficult bug to fix. I pay £8 a month and am happy to support your important journalism but please please please fix this. Didn't want to leave the one star but I feel I have no choice...happy to change to 5* once fixed

Awfully buggy app

Imagine a magazine that looses its place every time you set it down for 2 minutes or whose pages sometimes refuse to turn. That's this app. It frequently crashes when the phone is locked or when in the background, meaning you have to find your place again. There are also scrolling bugs which mean you often can't actually scroll down an article. I've had both these issues regularly on my iPhone 15 Plus and 2020 iPad Air. It's not the fault of NS, I subscribe to another magazine which appears to use the same base-app ("pugpig bolt") and it has exactly the same issues despite being on an older version, which goes to show how much investment is happening in QA! Please improve the app quality.

Please improve the search function so we can more easily find relevant articles

Certain basic functions that can be easily done on the website (such as finding most recent articles and searching by author) are absent/much more difficult to do in the app.

The app search function is hidden away in the account settings menu, and does not provide useful results when used (e.g. top three results when you search for ‘Helen Thompson’ are articles by Martha Gill, Philip Collins and George Eaton). It would be useful to be able to follow/search by certain writers, as is possible in other news apps.

Also not sure why the entire app has to refresh with splash screen whenever you switch out of it.
