NEWS2 Calculator is designed to make it easier for healthcare professionals to calculate NEWS or NEWS2 scores during the assessment of acute illnesses in patients.

The NEWS and NEWS2 are scoring systems which use six physiological parameters, which are recorded in routine practice, to give an aggregate score which can be used to determine the best response for acutely ill patients. The six parameters are:
- Respiratory rate
- Oxygen saturation
- Systolic blood pressure
- Pulse rate
- Level of consciousness
- Temperature

A score is allocated to each parameter during measurement. A larger score means the parameter varies more from normal levels.

NEWS2 Calculator has options to colour code the controls based on their value (for example, when changing the value of a parameter which would give a score of 3, the control turns red). The colours are based upon the NEWS2 chart which healthcare workers are already familiar with, making NEWS2 Calculator extremely intuitive and easy to use.

There is also an option for alerts to appear which provide further guidance for healthcare workers on the best course of action to take, based upon the NEWS or NEWS2 score which was calculated.

This is really easy to use and I love it! It saves at least 45 seconds compared to paper. Good work! Mark

Been looking for the News2 scoring for some time. Well laid out, my only minor concern is having to press ‘calculate’ to get score where other apps have updated automatically when sections have been updated. Other than that very pleased.

Developer Response ,

Hi Daz, thanks very much for your feedback. We decided to go with a dedicated 'Calculate' button as early testing showed that occasionally a user might change the values accidentally when scrolling without noticing the score had been updated, so a button was added to mitigate that.

However, we will carry on further testing in future updates in response to your feedback. Thank you for using NEWS2 Calculator, and we hope you find it useful!

Handy for phone

I bought this app before NEWS2 was integrated into our electronic patient record system. NEWS2 is far better clinical indicator. I now only use the app if I am doing a paper record and would only recommend buying it for that.

Hi there,
Thank you for buying NEWS2 Calculator! We hope it is useful for your work. However, we want everyone to be completely satisfied when using it, and obviously there are some things we could improve on from your review. If you have a chance, could you email us at outlining your specific concerns? Many thanks, Cameron -- Coding Corner
