“Before Nextdoor, I didn’t know there were several qualified babysitters living nearby and looking for work. It was easy to feel comfortable hiring my neighbour’s daughter to watch my son after school.” - Patrick, Mission East

“This year for Spring Cleaning, we wanted to sell old appliances, tools, clothing and electronics on Nextdoor Finds. In no time, our neighbours stopped by to make a deal and take things off our hands. It was easier than anything else, and it feels good knowing our old stuff has found a new home in the neighbourhood.” - Dan, Hayes Valley

At Nextdoor, we believe that by bringing neighbours together, we can cultivate a kinder world where everyone has a neighbourhood they can rely on.

Nextdoor is a trusted environment where all neighbours are verified, making it safe to share online the kinds of things you'd be okay sharing with your neighbours in person.

Here's how:

• Every neighbour verifies their address

• All members go by their real names, just like in person

NextDoor APP

I first heard about Nextdoor APP from a client that reviews and writes about different types of technology for Forbes Europe. When I was working on his property, he mentioned that he was going to review NextDoor and mentioned it may be a tool to use to get more connected in the neighbourhood. I searched for Nextdoor on the APP store and at first I didn’t understand it but slowly, and after using it for a few weeks, I now find it a indispensable tool for the following reasons;

1) It has helped me connect with neighbours and people around my neighbourhood. I’ve made new friends and contacts.

2) I run a small business and the APP has helped bring in new clients and helped me grow my business without the need of spending money to advertise.

3) The APP allows you to list items for sale or offer unneeded items to others for free. I picked up a brand new bedroom room suite for a third of the retail cost! And, continue to find bargains!

4) I volunteer in my local community and I advertise free workshops and events for free.

I genuinely like Nextdoor as a user and I have had APP installed for over two years, a lot longer than most APPs! I rate it five stars because of the above and the fact that I use it on a daily basis.

Quite Disturbing

I thought this app sounded a good idea. And potentially it could be a beneficial community resource. I’ve seen a couple of good outcomes as a result of the app. However, the advantages are outweighed by the negatives. The reality is the way in which my particular community uses it (and I’ve seen reviews discussing similar concerns in numerous other neighbourhoods) simply highlights the bigotry, racism and arrogance of my neighbours. For example, God forbid should there be a non-White person seen at someone’s door or a White person perhaps in a hoodie who doesn’t quite look middle-class enough, because that person’s photo could end up on the site with everyone suggesting the criminal intentions they are likely to have been harbouring. Horrible allegations are constantly made about people with little to no evidence. While a few rational neighbours will comment on such problematic assumptions and allegations, they’ll likely then in turn be subject to disparaging comments and nastiness. It’s so upsetting. Until there is more rigorous monitoring and handling of these issues, this resource will continue to compound societal division and fuel racism, snobbism and bullying.

Hi neighbour, thank you for taking the time to write us such an honest review of communication in your neighbourhood. Nextdoor's aim is to connect neighbours so that they can communicate in a way that is civil, constructive and builds community. It is clear that this is not the case. We would love to look into this further and make your Nextdoor Neighbourhood a welcoming community to be a part of. Please do contact us and one of the team will be in touch. Fantastic platform, but...

This app is a great idea. In my experience, most people using it are using it in the correct spirit, and helping and supporting one another. I have not seen too much of racism or bigotry (as reported by some other reviewers), but have seen some annoying ‘PC policing’ - this is hardly the developers fault.
There is a lot of overt and covert advertising going on which can be annoying - misleading headlines (calling something free, then asking for money) fraudulent endorsement (i.e. promoting someone’s own partner/brother/friend with false reviews) etc. Most dangerous ones are the conspiracy theorists and antivaxxers!
Again, not the developer’s fault, but some monitoring is needed. The developer should act promptly when reported of such practices- I have reported a few times, but have given up now as nothing happens.
And then the problem with endless posts about cats - what’s that all about? The last one is probably just me :)
