Astounding value for money

I purchased Ninox to see if it could handle a data set I had up until that point stored in Excel, and because the price point was low enough that if it didn’t work out there was no harm done. I discovered a database application that was far more powerful than I was expecting for the money and indeed I migrated my Excel data with ease. I now have a database platform that makes creating simple systems an absolute breeze while providing the power and flexibility to make them as sophisticated and complex as I desire.A second advantage is that I can publish my database for use by a small team of people at a monthly price that is virtually pocket change. It’s incredibly cheap in comparison to similar products on the Mac platform.Thirdly, my team can access and use the database in a web page in exactly the same way I see it on my Mac. They’re all Windows users so this is a key advantage. And yes, there’s an iPad app which also works the same way. I’ve not tried the iPhone app as I don’t have an iPhone but I suspect it will also work the same way within the confines of the screen real estate.And finally, it’s just plain *fun*! The user interface is so consistent and so easy to use that you just want to keep firing it up to make that next improvement. Overall, I can’t recommend this more highly, and I look forward to seeing how the product will evolve. For example, I note that I can create fields with formulas behind them that call REST interfaces - there’s a lot I could do with that.A note to the developers: please don’t take this review as a call to increase your prices! Security not even an afterthought.

Like other reviews, I find this tool unintuitive and the manual a little difficult to follow. That said, that's not my big issue with this; it's that there is no security built in - you cannot protect the database with a password/encryption which might be a deal breaker for some - especially if you are putting some sensitive information in there and wish to sync that data across your iPad and iPhone. If you do want to sync, be aware your database file is sat in the cloud and a single password breach means it's accessible. Even the location of the file if you run it standalone is strange - buried in an arcane path (and the documentation is wrong here by the way) rather than having the option of saving to documents (where of course you could put an encrypted container and protect it). The Ninox answer to this is to buy into Ninox Cloud but I'd argue in this day and age, security should be built into the product, not bolted on to the outside. Finally, this was a requested feature (by someone else) over two years ago and today I got told it would be added to the list - given the last update was updated fonts I wouldn't hold your breath for a secure version anytime soon.Two stars because it looks nice - could have been 5 if done properly.

I am really impressed with this piece of software. It’s not yet perfect with a few small gremlins but they are of a minor nature. Having previously used Filemaker I have some experience of relational database design and while this isn’t a full replacement for Filemaker it would probably satisfy lots of people. It is suprisingly powerful, very stable and does everything I need. I can’t comment on performance once the database gets large and complicated because I have only been using it for a few days but I have built a very useful, multi-table database that has made a real contribution to my working day. Great value for money, highly recommended.UPDATE. I have now been using Ninox for 18 months and I still rate it very highly. It is regularly maintained and updated with new abilities. It has never crashed and runs in the background 24/7. Still very highly recommended.
Perfect software for our small business

We have been using Ninox for five years for keeping records in our plant nursery as well as managing stock inventory and orders. It is seamlessly connected to woocommerce and xero, saving us what used to take hours of data-entry. We are not IT people and needed some help getting things set up but can now do most of the basic coding required to keep building and adapting the database. If i had one complaint it is that Ninox could do with a better coding manual. The forum is useful and i usually find an answer to my questions but it can be hard to find what we're looking for. In summary, an excellent tool for small businesses with ongoing developments and improvements. Highly recommended.
