Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath 12+

I bought this because of childhood nostaligia, I fondly remember it from the old xbox days. The story and characters are still as good as they ever were, although the disjointed nature of the conversations makes it clear that the game is a bit old- modern games of this type tend to feel more alive and thriving, which is something Oddworld lacks.

There are a couple of minor irritating bugs, such as it being virtually impossible to get the mouse sensitivity right, and the odd moment where the game is a little slow to keep up with directional commands, but otherwise it’s a really good port.

I’d recommend if you were a fan of the original

The port of this old game is well enough done. There are a few graphical glitches here and there and the menu’s aren’t the best, but it’s overall a decent port to macOS. I didn’tplay this game at the time, and I’ve got very far yet, but this is my review so far… The main problem is that the game itsself just isn’t that great. The Oddworld team haven't managed to recreate the mood, elegant gameplay or great controls they had in the Abe games. So far the game offers no interesting puzzles, little variety in gameplay, and lots of tired western pastiche. It’s always clear exactly where to go and what to do - there are no choices to keep progression through the game interesting and in trying to be both a FPS and a 3rd person it does poorly at both. Shame, because as an idea it had potential and the Oddworld universe has such richness for a game which is so skin-deep.

Not knowing much about this game, and never having played it before on the original xbox, I decided to take punt as I couldn’t argue with the 40% off price of £4.49. I’m so glad I downloaded it!
The graphics are great, the storyline is amusing and most importantly it’s incredibly fun to play! Switching between 1st and 3rd person takes a bit of getting use to, but you soon get into the swing of things. I’m not a big gamer, but this has definitely got me hooked! I’ll be keeping an eye out for other games in this series, and I recommend anyone else to download this game too - you wont be disappointed!
