Pastel 4+

I’ve only ever purchased an app straight away or within the first use, maybe handful of occasions. Normally I use and see if I need it or it gets left/deleted depending on the various other types of similar apps out there. The IAP is not needed from my point of view as I only managed a couple palettes so far and the 20 or so you get before needing to upgrade is plenty, sort of if you’re like me, so really you have a full functional app, now that’s generosity from the dev but I’m buying regardless as I want to not just support the dev but hopefully in time I’ll get better developed at designing and will need more colour palettes but either way it’s pennies and well worth it even if I never go over the free amount offered as standard anyway.
Now this is one of those first time use I’m buying straight away apps. Amazingly simple, clean beautiful and full of everything you’d ever need from a colour picker, with so so many other functions thrown in.
It does exactly what it says on the tin’ and with fluidity simplicity and a joy to use.

I already like using Pastel and kept returning to it wheneverr any of my work depended on me making good choices with colours in spite of a few limitations I felt while using it. Just felt intuitve and satisfying to operate in ways I can't articulate as a non-dev that made me that for me justified working around some finer details.

I happened to message the developer about a particular limitation at the time and jjust summoned Pastel to help me with one of my infrequent but regular complex colour schemes and a bunch of meaningful upgrades have been added in addition to what I had brought up.

I'm going to stop using the word "but" when I recommend Pastel to people. It does everything most people casually browsing the App Store for their tools will need plus a little more, I already genuinely enjoyed booting it up to fiddle around in and it continues to be polished and refined into a great example of a very Mac-flavoured One Thing Well.

This was one of those apps that I paid for the full version of after less than a minute of use. The ability to generate lists of colours from photos and to drag the picker across the photo so you can get every colour there is great. Storing them into a palette to use elsewhere is excellent. And more than anything, the app just does what it does well and cleanly. Instantly recommended to anyone who does design, from local newsletters to professional branding work.
