Description

Get Power Apps to conveniently access your work or school apps no matter where you are: at home, on the road, in the field, off-campus, at the airport, or at the beach – anywhere life takes you.

WHAT’S INSIDE

The Power Apps app is the front door to the apps at your work or school. Which apps can you use? It depends on what’s been created for you. Here are some examples you might see, or ones you can make yourself using the Power Apps website:

• Campus app: Map your campus with icons for landmarks and facility details.
• Event registration app: Record attendees as they arrive using barcodes or QR codes.
• Expenses app: Let employees submit their expenses and upload photos of receipts.
• Health clinic app: Let patients check in to appointments with just a few taps.
• NFC reader app: Scan NFC tags on ID cards, equipment, packages, etc.
• Performance app: Visualize data and get insights with interactive dashboards.
• Sales app: See opportunities and leads, review comments, and approve for your P&L.
• Space planning app: Take 3D measurements and manipulate objects in mixed reality.
• Timesheet app: Collect, consolidate, and analyze shift data from employees.

This is just a handful of examples; the possibilities are endless. Build and share low-code apps for your work or school at the Power Apps website.

TIPS

• Swipe right to make an app a favorite, swipe left to add a shortcut to the home screen.
• As an admin, mark an app as Featured, so that it stays pinned to the top of the apps list.
• Some apps can work offline, and Power Apps will sync your data when you reconnect.

Designed to run business apps for organisations and it does it well

The PowerApps app is not a scam and the app does what it is meant to do well. You need to be aware of what it is for and what it is not. It is not designed to create apps that you can publish to the App Store; it is designed to run business apps created for organisations running either Microsoft Office365 or MIcrosoft Dynamics. The range of data sources extends beyond those Microsoft offerings. It is possible to subscribe to PowerApps standalone for a relatively low monthly fee without a Microsoft Office365 sub. PowerApps is great.

The only reason I would be tempted to mark it down is that PowerApps overall is still lacking in certain areas. Some are data source related, others are inexplicable bugs like the SQL Server date filtering bug (if you’re a Microsoft Dev reading this please explain why this bug is still there when it was going to be fixed “in one or two releases”...two years ago!) My own gripe is the lack of printing or export support. However, none of that is the fault of the app. The app does what it is meant to do.

Very powerful business application

For businesses with Office 365 this is a must, i used the Powerapps with Flow and I created amazing apps in hours that were deplorable and useable.

Would suggest that this is for super users only as less technical people will struggle.

Look for training content on the web and don't get put off by small minded anti Microsoft people, make your own mind up.

Issue with shortcuts

I have an old PowerApp that I regularly use, so I added it as a separate icon on my iPhone Home Screen, so I didn’t have to go into the PowerApps iPhone app every time and launch it from there. That icon is still present on my Home Screen. But now, I have a second App that I want as a shortcut on my Home Screen. So within the PowerApps app, you click on the ‘i’ icon next to the app, and then you get to a page which has an ‘Add shortcut’ option, with an icon of a house with a ‘+’ sign over it, which implies that it is for adding to your Home Screen. When I click on it, it goes into the iPhone Shortcuts app where you can create automated actions etc. This is not adding to the Home Screen therefore, so can you fix this please? Thanks
