I’ve been using Procreate for commissions and other artwork for around five years. Previously I was using Adobe Photoshop which I found confusing and difficult in comparison procreate has a much more limited number of useful features however is much easier to understand and it’s far more accessible. I have found that Photoshop did have certain editing capabilities that Procreate doesn’t and this is often slightly frustrating, however Photoshop is a monthly subscription of around £10, whereas Procreate is far cheaper and there’s no subscription model in place which I’m grateful for. The points that I would say are easily fixable by the development team and could do with adding in an adequate file storing system, there is no easy way to organise your files, there is a feature called stacks however this has very limited capacity – whenever you add another item into a stack it clears the name of the stack which makes organisation incredibly difficult. I feel like this would be an easy future for the team to add. With folders and sub folders. That being sad – I think it is a brilliant tool for beginners and intermediate artists. I do think for a specifically more advanced paid work that Photoshop is a more suitable tool however I love Procreate and I’m happy with the app in general.

Hi there! Thanks for leaving us a wonderful review and we appreciate your feedback. Procreate does not at this stage sync files directly to the Files app, but we have achieved this in Procreate Dreams and the technology will be built into Procreate in the future, too. It will still take us some time, but we have every intention of bringing iCloud syncing to Procreate as we understand the importance of backup and restoration options. Till then, we would kindly request you to back up manually. We are also keen to improve the usability of Procreate, and we're listening to all feedback about how people would best like to organise their Gallery. 🌟
Superb!!

Of course no apps are going to be PERFECT, but the next thing to it is always working towards it, which Procreate absolutely nails. There are millions (as far as I can see) of amazing tools on there, as well as complex animation, replay, distortion and so many other cool things. I recommend having a go at Sketchbook, which is free, first. If after 2-3 months you feel comfortable and happy with digital art, and you feel like you’re pushing the boundaries a bit and are looking for more (as I was) then go ahead. You might even earn the money back by selling artwork/brushes on Etsy etc. Yes, it’s £12, quite pricy, but if you think about it, you might spend that much on a good set of art pens or a few notebooks or something. It’s not a subscription, which unfortunately 95% of all apps seem to be, so you can properly OWN it. Plus, if you have an Apple Family Sharing plan, which is free, then you can share it with up to 5 people — which I do — without paying any extra. Also: To the developers, I saw you replied to so many other reviews which is great, well done for the amazing app. Just a couple of asks: 1. Could you add a few more options to the Liquify adjustment? I love playing with it SO MUCH, and it would be super cool to see even more! 2. I often group layers for big projects, and would like to be able to put a layer ABOVE the group and set it as a clipping mask ON the group. I don’t know if this is possible, but if it is, it would be really useful! Thank you!

Hey tartaresauce - Thank you for using Procreate and for sharing your suggestions with us. We have noted them down as references for future development. As we are actively working on bringing more features to Procreate, it is possible that they might get considered for implementation. 🤗

I really enjoy this app, it’s one of the best drawing programs I’ve used. However I recently started to dabble with the animation feature and I have to say it’s lacking a fair bit and could really do with an overhaul, I’m not a pro animator so I can’t say all that needs improving but one of the biggest things for me that stops it from being great is the layers; having to create folders for each frame so I can do cleans and whatnot is a nightmare and seriously hinders the workflow trying to edit frames, it would be great if it did it automatically and showed multiple layers in folders on the timeline as multiple lines. Another thing would be that there’s no independent onion skins; not being able to set the amount of skins independently for forward and back gets a bit annoying and messy. One more thing, the presets… Come on, who animates at 15 fps? Heathens that’s who, 12 and 24 are the standards, you’re setting up some new animators that aren’t aware with a real bad habit.Anyway, I don’t think it would take much tinkering with the animation feature for procreate to beat 90% of the other animation apps available and I think it’d definitely be worth it since right now trying to do anything more than a simple 10 second animation is like pulling teeth and it has the potential to be so much better.

Hey AweyMikibish - thank you very much for the review, and for the feedback regarding animation and how we could potentially improve it! It's always important for us to know how we could do better. 🤠
OK. We went too far. This update sharpens the corners of your Gallery thumbnails. It also calms down the height of Animation and Page Assist and fixes an issue in 3D painting where you couldn't import meshes without normals.
Remember that all your custom brushes are available in the Classic Library by pinching the brush panel, or tapping the Procreate Library title.
