Returning Home in Haringey 4+

To provide information, guidance for young people who go missing from home and those who to seek help and support from a trusted person and youth professionals.

This app has been developed in partnership with the young people of Haringey to provide an alternative way for young people who go missing from home, to communicate with professionals, if they prefer not to discuss them being missing directly with a social worker or police officer in person.

I was missing/ I want to return home.
This app provides information to help young people understand why some young people go missing, and the circumstances in which this might happen. When a young person has been missing and returns home, it is important that police and those working with you understand what happened to prevent it happening again, so if you have been missing you can use this app to let a trusted person know that you may need help.

I need support.
If you need support to keep yourself or your friends safe, or you want to talk about being stopped and searched or to engage in constructive activities, you can request contact from a youth professional, using this app, who will contact you within 72 hours to talk things through, and to agree how they can help.
The app also provides up-to-date information on services, organisations, and activities available to children and young people in the local area, that they, or their parents, can contact directly.

Stop and Search
The police use stop and search as a legitimate police tactic to prevent crime and harm in the community. Young people tell us that being stopped and searched can be a traumatic experience. If you want to talk to somebody about this experience, you can contact somebody via this App.
The log can also be shared with parents and trusted adults at the young person discretion.

This section provides accurate written information about the circumstances when a child or young person may be stopped and searched by Police. We have also included a cartoon that provides this information in an animated format.

Stop and search – my rights.
The police must follow the 'GO WISELY' guidance, that relates specifically to the requirements for conducting stop and search under section 1 of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) ‘ ‘GO WISELY’ is explained in a simple format that will enable any child or young person who experiences being stopped and searched to recognise if their stop and search was lawful.
Grounds – A clear explanation of the reasons for the Officer’s search, - why they find you suspicious
Object – What the Officer will be looking for
Warrant – Warrant card to be produced. If the Officer is not in uniform
Identity – The Officer must state their name and collar number (except in terrorism cases, where the Officer can provide just his collar number)
Station – The Officer must identify the station at which they are based.
Entitlement – The Officer must inform you of your entitlement to a copy of the stop/search record (which will be either handwritten or, increasingly, electronically recorded)
Legal – The Officer must specify the legislation under which they are searching you for example The Misuse of Drugs Act 1971
You – The Officer must clearly explain to you, that you are being detained for the purpose of a search.
If the GO WISELY procedure is not followed, then the search is highly likely to have been unlawful.

Log a stop and search.
This function enables the child or young person to make a log of all instances when they are stopped and searched by police. These logs can be kept as a personal record only, and/ or can be copied to their parents, other trusted adults, and professionals who can respond to offer support if requested.
