Wouldn’t have minded the subscription cost if it was actually good

You cannot use this app unless you pay the monthly subscription fee.

This wouldn’t have been a problem if what was offered was worth the money, but sadly it isn’t.

The plant identifier works OK, and I liked the idea of building your own garden profile/library so you could get tailored advice. But you can only add a plant to your garden profile if there are details (seasons, required care etc.) for it on the data base. And while the plant identifier could find close matches for everything I tried, around half of them didn’t have any details on the database, so I couldn’t add them to my garden profile. If we had a complicated/exotic garden, I might be able to understand more why they wouldn’t be on the database. But all our plants a very ‘standard’ for an English garden. So it all just feels a bit pointless and not worth the money

Developer Response ,

Hello
We are improving our plant database all the time, please let us know at rhsgrow@rhs.org.uk if there are particular plants you are unable to find and like to see and we will include that in our prioritisation.
We have new features and product improvements coming all the time.

Many thanks
RHS Grow team

Crashed and battered ,

Hopeless

It doesn’t work. You are trying to make me pay for something that crashes every time I try to use it.

I have had the website version of this, loading some 600 of my garden plants onto it ever since it was offered for free by the RHS which they also asked us to run our membership from - and maybe even accept digital versions of The Garden and our Membership book rather than a physical copy. In light of the changes and trying to switch us to an app since then, thankfully I specified physical copies - ‘cos it crashes.

Every time I open the app on either my phone or my IPad, I can guarantee it will crash. I try to access the part of it that has my plants on it, or the Wishlist part of it - it crashes. Admittedly my wishlist is more than one or two plants BUT…….isn’t that the whole point?

I like many others, will not be paying for this app. The idea behind it (ie via the website) may’ve been a good one, the execution of it is hopeless and having had (and still using) the website version as a member for free then trying to get me to pay for something further than my membership feels exploitative of your members. Trying to justify that stance as you have in another review/response by saying the Membership covers the gardens etc ignores the fact that you are trying to remove something we had for free with something you want us to pay for.
AND - IT CRASHES.

Hopzzy ,

Extra cost despite being a member!!

Like the previous reviewer I downloaded this app only to find an added cost to use the app despite being a member, so it will be deleted. I find it irritating that on downloading an app there is then a monthly/yearly cost to use it to its full potential (which affects many types of apps, when are app developers going to realise that a nominal one off charge would greatly increase its use, whereas people like me just end up deleting it as we can’t afford the subscription costs) - this app should be free for members, we are pensioners and while we budget for our yearly RHS membership, extra app costs are not an option for us.
