Description

Sounds crazy but it’s not. Unlike traditional car insurance companies that base prices on crude demographics like your age or marital status, Rooster is different.

We use our app, AI & sensors in your phone to analyse & build a profile of your driving behaviour over a 3–4 week period (the test drive). Then give you a quote based primarily on how, where & when you actually drive, not who you are.

By only offering quotes to good drivers and not insuring bad drivers (the 30% of drivers who make up 50% of all claims), we pay out fewer claims & pass those savings onto our community of good drivers.

Why choose Rooster car insurance?

Good drivers save up to 40%, regardless of age
- Drive with the Rooster app & get a fair quote
- How well you drive is the No.1 factor that determines your price
-No more subsidising the cost of bad drivers’ accidents (like you do with other companies)

No more long forms
- Simply scan you driving licence and get started in 60 secs or less
- Customise your policy & make changes all within the simple intuitive app
- Earn £1000's by referring friends

So far so good

I came across Rooster via a social media advert. After doing some digging to make sure the company is genuine (FCA register check, companies house check, some LinkedIn and social media search for its director) I decided to give it a try. Setting up the app is simple and they don’t ask a million questions, like other insurance companies. I drove around for about 2 weeks before reciting my quote, which was almost 50% cheaper than quotes offered to me by the big insurers.
The customer service is great, they respond very quickly to your messages via the app.
So far I got nothing to complain about.

Many thanks for the positive review & feedback.

Doesn’t account for hands free

Did the test drive (which took about 3 weeks as I drive a lot less during lockdown), most of my scores were good except for “distracted driving” which is measured by using your phone while driving which I never do. I use Apple CarPlay, voice commands, and steering wheel controls to change music or operate google maps and yet it still gave me a bad score.

On top of that, when I had completed the test drive I had to reach out to rooster on their chat as it wasn’t giving me a quote. They were quick in their reply and to resolve that issue to be fair. The final quote would only save me £5 a month and I’d lose my progress towards no claims bonus, so isn’t worth it for me. However, I have only been driving for less than a year so maybe this service isn’t made for new drivers.

Developer Response ,

Thanks for the feedback & sorry we were unable to save you money. As you say we are not for everyone (you need to be over 20 and have passed your test at least 12 months ago). Our distracted driving algorithms 'do distinguish between handheld and handsfree phone usage', as well as other distracted driving signals. Whilst handsfree usage does not cause as many accidents than handheld usage, it is still a cognitive distraction. Hope this helps clarify everything.

Waste of time/

So i asked before i started I have had claims 5 years ago, will that effect my outcome for a quote, they said no. Was told it is down to my driving test. So for three weeks I took the test constantly driving within speed limits and avoiding driving at unsocial times. So my score given to me was 6/10. However they said they cannot give me a quote due to my previous driving history. If that was the case why did you not tell me this three weeks ago so I didn’t waste my time? So to me it sounds like the company only want downloads for the app and then waste your time. Some things are too good to be true and this is one of them. Go with a proper insurer that will cover you properly. Also I told them I work for the emergency services so I have to break speed limits due to my profession, but thag wasn’t taken into account.

Developer Response ,

Hey Adam, thanks for the feedback & sorry that you feel you have been unfairly rejected. Your driving behaviour (where, when & how) is the number one factor in our pricing, however we also look at other factors like driving history so having previous claims will effect your price. However you will not have been rejected because of your previous claims unless you have had more than 3 at fault claims in 5 years (after all we only insure good drivers). We would love get to the bottom of what happened here so please contact customer support via our chat facility or email us directly on hello@joinrooster.co.uk. Best wishes Team Rooster
