Great Value Car Insurance!

Rooster Car Insurance has been able to offer me by far the most competitive quote I have been able to find anywhere online, a saving in excess of the 40% suggested, based purely on my driving style.

As a young person with 3 points on my licence I have found it very difficult to find a good value quote until I came across Rooster!

The App is simple to use and the team were very fast to respond to any questions I had.

Didn't get a quote

I was really hopeful that this would work for me. I've got 14 years no claims and always try to stick to speed limits. Downloaded the app and drove for a few weeks. I don't drive far so needed a bit longer than some to get scores. I have never watched my speedometer so much in my life, and it's mostly 20mph around where I live. I had someone tailgating me everywhere I went but according to the app I drive too fast and the speed score was about 40%! I also scored low on the type of roads because I don't drive on the motorway regularly. I drive on local village/town roads at slow speeds and are safe roads. The motorways near me have accidents pretty much on a daily basis! Might be more suitable for people who drive more miles regularly. Unfortunately I got a pop up saying I can't get a quote. I don't believe I have done anything wrong!

Doesn’t account for hands free

Did the test drive (which took about 3 weeks as I drive a lot less during lockdown), most of my scores were good except for “distracted driving” which is measured by using your phone while driving which I never do. I use Apple CarPlay, voice commands, and steering wheel controls to change music or operate google maps and yet it still gave me a bad score.

On top of that, when I had completed the test drive I had to reach out to rooster on their chat as it wasn’t giving me a quote. They were quick in their reply and to resolve that issue to be fair. The final quote would only save me £5 a month and I’d lose my progress towards no claims bonus, so isn’t worth it for me. However, I have only been driving for less than a year so maybe this service isn’t made for new drivers.

Thanks for the feedback & sorry we were unable to save you money. As you say we are not for everyone (you need to be over 20 and have passed your test at least 12 months ago). Our distracted driving algorithms 'do distinguish between handheld and handsfree phone usage', as well as other distracted driving signals. Whilst handsfree usage does not cause as many accidents than handheld usage, it is still a cognitive distraction. Hope this helps clarify everything.
