Still the best scanner out there
I’ve been using this scanner for a couple of years and although occasionally I check out other apps, none come close to this one. The OCR is the best I have seen. The processing is all on-device and it is one of, if not the most accurate OCR engines I’ve ever seen. It overlays the recognised text over the scan so you can easily check if there are any mistakes. You will get the very best results (almost 100% accuracy) by scanning flat, black and white text in direct sunlight. You will still get good results (around 95%) in average artificial light, depending on your phone’s camera resolution (old iPhones may struggle a little bit). The same goes for the colour and contrast of the scan. In this area though, I have seen a couple of apps that render contrast and colour slightly better, but that was offset but their almost unusable OCR. So for document storage, digitisation and text recognition, this is best app there is.
Documents lost
Do not trust this app with your documents. I had used it to scan several documents over several months. I just scanned in a document, hit save, and my entire documents were spontaneously wiped and it reset back to the “scan your first document” screen. I’ve lost documents with their other apps too. As much as I like the UI of Readdle apps, I’ve lost documents, documents have failed to load in times I’ve need it to.
EDIT. Thanks to developer for the response. I was extremely frustrated with the app because it let me down at a time I really needed it to just work. Regarding the “Use iCloud for Sync” option. It does not appear. Neither does “Store Scans in iCloud Drive”. I know where it should be because I see it on my iPad (right next to “Wi-fi Access”) but the option vanished on my iPhone. iCloud was previously working with the app, but since the app crashed badly I can’t get it back. The option for Scanner Pro under iCloud settings is still enabled too. Incidentally I later found that my disk space was practically full so this must have been why the app behaved erratically - the app really needs to handle this more robustly. I’ve since freed up 10gb so plenty now, and despite reinstalling the app still have no joy getting icloud back.
