OK, as these things go

We bought a SofaBaton U1 as a replacement for the Logitech universal remotes (RIP).

As this type of software goes, it works well - if basic. It can learn from other remotes, it’s got a good library of information, and the app is updated regularly.

We got the U1 because being able to type in a channel number is important when you’ve got “cable”.

The notable thing lacking - which I hope it gets one day - is the ability to back up your settings.
Any time a remote (the hardware) fails, you have to set them up from new and if you’re anything like me that means at least 4 different pieces of “hi-fi” (Apple TV, TV, receiver, satellite box). There’s so much work with the initial setup, that if you have to do it again, you’re going to look at other options when that happens “just in case” something better has become available. If I could restore from backup - that would be an automatic re-purchase of the same product just to avoid the setup work.

On iPhones it could be saved to iCloud - to be secure and so the manufacturer didn’t have to deal with accounts too.

Easy to use but buggy

This app is so easy and intuitive to use, so it’s a shame that it quite often loses setting at every opportunity. This happens when replacing batteries in the remote, or when you try to remove just one device and it removes ALL devices. It’s a surprisingly simple app so I’m a little dumbfounded how this was not tested before release? Hopefully just an easy fix’s to get right.

Needs a lot of work

I have the X1 at home and a rather extensive set of requirements.

The app is clunky, the sync feature takes way too long.

I’ve finally got to a point where it mostly works, the app has dropped settings quite a lot and needs you to go back and rework activities that previously weee functional.

Final fly in the ointment is that the app now crashes when I try to edit an activity, specifically changing the input for the AV amplifier.
