Connect to the speakers would be good

Airplay via apple is what I use as unfortunately (because the content on Sonos radio is good) for a expensive high end product like this this app is applying. Speakers seem to randomly appear and disappear (whilst always being visible is you look with AirPlay!?!?) and I have been trying to rename one of my speakers for about 10 months and another for over a year. It is a extremely short sited thing for Sonos to do, make very good wireless speakers and then release an app that your lucky if you can connect to. The same happens on my wife’s phone and all other instillation I have of the app. 0stars for the app 1 for the content Sonos radio is bad I just never listen because the app is if your lucky it is slow and clunky and if your unlucky not working at all. Please Sonos could you sort this pigs ear of an app out so I can use all the features of my speakers properly.
I have 9 Sonos speakers they are great BUT PLEASE SORT THE APP OUT IT IS UNUSABLE if it was not for AirPlay allowing me to connect to them I would have sold them. The “new” app that I have been using for age since it release is worse. Please it must be in your own interest to do this as a co look at the App Store reviews that are not reviews for ur speakers all talk about the same stability and connectivity problems.

New app has ruined what was a great product

I have 6 Sonos speakers in my house and a portable Roam and they are now all pretty much unusable because of the latest app update. The app is slow, unresponsive and I am unable to control any of the speakers properly. A simple thing like adjusting the volume is now painful and irritating. I can slide the volume control down, just to watch it slide itself back to where it was. The actual volume on the speakers will respond likewise - but about 2 minutes later, by dropping slightly and then going straight back to the previous volume. I can tap pause on the app, the UI changes on the app but the music is still playing. So now the music is on but the only button I have to press is a play button. ‘Grouped’ speakers that used to behave brilliantly in unison now respond to commands at different times making it impossible to know what I need to do to get the right song playing or at the right volume. The whole thing has rapidly turned into the most expensive mistake I’ve made. All of which is a massive shame, because for 5 or 6 years - with older versions of the app, I thought it was brilliant.

I’ve been waiting for a new app release dealing with all these infuriating bugs, but nothing’s come from Sonos even though I’ve read of so many people experiencing the same issues. But at least they’ve made a new versions of the Roam and some headphones that people can spend more money on!

A once excellent app made almost unusable overnight

There were so many good things about the Sonos app, until they completely rewrote it and released the new version in spring 2024, with what seems like months worth of development time still required. Don't be mis-led by the overall star rating on the app store if it still looks reasonable – that will be because the average is still taking into account the many old five-star reviews before the app was ruined.

There are too many failures to list – just read the reviews to get a flavour. The worst for me is the terrible boot-up time. Here's an example of why that's more than irritating. We've all experienced the must coming on and it's too loud, or in the wrong rooms, right? We then urgently reach for the app to turn down the volume or turn off certain speakers. Well, forget about that. You'll have to wait 20 to 30 seconds to be able to do anything: and in the meantime, if you've woken sometime up, you'll be apologetically telling them, yes, you really are trying to turn it down, or off, but you can't.

Unless you can get an older version of the app, somehow, then at the moment I can't recommend buying Sonos products. Which is such a shame, as they've always offered a top class experience. There's no way any software developer would want an unfinished product like this going out of the door. Heads should roll in senior management for forcing it on us.
