A good idea but...

This has been good for getting the small human out for a walk (she’s competing with a friend) but the app is over-complicated really and crashes a lot - says it can’t find an internet connection etc but all other apps are fine, it freezes on the star “scan” image, the C1 sometimes doesn’t appear. Also the background mode is very intermittent, presumably for same reason. I think it needs to be stable and WORK reliably as a simple app before all the things like poly tags and other extended features are added. Developers are getting ahead of themselves I think. A great idea but it’s getting frustrating so please fix before we get tired of it

Really only works if walking

Although this is a great idea in theory, it only really ever works properly if you’re just walking and even then it’s sketchy. I have done several power hours and it’s crashed halfway through meaning we miss lots of tags. I run regularly with the children and can’t click the tags for the children and as for when I’m cycling it often tells me I’m driving a car because I’m going too fast, so anything over 20 miles an hour is classed as driving a car. Just recently I’ve been doing power hours and it’s just stopped working, not loading again until after the hour is up… This is not only frustrating it ruins a lovely exercise session and I have disgruntled kids on my hands.
I also feel it favours those living in towns so there are no polly tags in the countryside.
It’s a good concept but poorly executed and once my children leave the school I will be deleting it.

We understand how you feel and apologize for the experience you had with the app.
When going for a run, we advise turning on the "scan in background" mode in the app settings. Additionally, ensure that battery-saving mode on your device is turned off, as it can disrupt tag collection in background mode.

For the best experience while cycling, we recommend using the CouchToPB button on the app home screen and selecting cycling as your option before starting your ride.

Lastly, PolyTags can be added at any location of your choice. You can request an addition by providing us with the postcode of your desired location. Feel free to email us at support@streettag.co.uk.

Thank you for your feedback, and we hope these tips enhance your experience with the app.

It would be fun, but...

First off, hats off to the developers for getting something out, and getting people out walking.

But

The app needs to have much better battery optimisation. Every time we use it, it drains the battery on both my wife’s phone (iPhone X) and mine (iPhone 11 Pro Max), to the extent that one of us normally has to end up switching the app off to keep the phone alive. For example, today, we went out and I had roughly 95% and my wife had 50% at the start of our walk. Within 30 mins, my wife was down to 2% and turned off the app. The phone then remained at 2% for the next hour while we finished the walk. By the end, I had lost nearly 25% of my battery.

This means that we don’t get the points for my wife which kind of defeats the object of the “Street Tag” part of the game.

The other annoying thing is that every time you hit a tag, the app seems to refresh the map, zooming out and buffering for 10-15 seconds. This means you have to stop waking if you want to also tag for any children with you, as by the time the app has refreshed, you’re out of range of the tag.

Sort out the battery usage and the implementation of the refresh, and this could be a 4 or 5 star app. Otherwise, great concept, poor implementation.

Developer Response ,

Hi Darkknight61, your feedback is much appreciated. We are working towards an offline mode to save battery usage and further app speed. The app went through some performance issues at the time of your feedback, we have now released an update with improved app performance. We'd love to have you re-experience the app :) and pending battery improvements.
