Therabody 12+

I rated this 3 stars on merit of what it could bring, but isn’t quite there yet. it does stand the theragun apart from others in this area and could be a big selling point with a few more updates.

It is quite buggy and actual ux needs a little work, but I like where they are going.
The issues I do have are for example the firmware update doesn’t work it just stays at 0%, the device mentioned presets but I see this no where in the app, just seems like vapourware.

I would very much like to see voiceover, someone talking you through the steps rather then have to keep looking back at screen.

An animation of the muscle group or an actual looping video rather then a static diagram would be great to ensure hitting the right muscles and using in the right away at a quick glance.

navigating back and forth through steps is a bit clunky and I’d like to be able to make my own routines.

App is very glitchy and can make for a frustrating experience.

First of all just general use. You can select from different sport types or target areas and it will run through different exercises but that’s about it. Some diagrams with arrows are provided but it would be useful to have videos on how to use various attachments / how to target areas and the option to have a voiceover talking you through the routine. Instead you have to keep an eye on the timer on your phone. You’re also given no time between muscle groups or moving to a new position. Needs a lot of work to improve the user experience.

Secondly, I am unable to comment on the supposed personalised experience. Trying to connect to my Apple Watch or Strava/Apple Health causes it to crash or I get ‘There was an error syncing with X. Please retry’ message.

I’ve not been able to download any firmware and been stuck on version 1.0.0. Download gets to 100% and crashes. Various delete/installs haven’t helped.

Sometimes starting a routine doesn’t start the timer/ pressure sensor and have to attempt to start the routine a few times to get it to work.

So in summary app is OK for a bit of a glorified timer but I feel there are a lot of fitness/health apps that do similar things really well so I feel for a premium product this really lets the device down.

I guess it does update firmware on my theragun elite, so that’s something. Other than that it’s fairly useless. The therabody apple watch app would be handy when actually using my theragun, but it doesn’t work. The app on my phone doesn’t recognise the app on my watch. I think this app must be based on some pretty rubbish framework, so they developers would be better off scrapping it and starting from scratch. They probably cannot do that, however, without losing the Bluetooth firmware function on everyone’s theraguns, so I guess we’re stuck with a rubbish app.
Connected it to my apple health and strava accounts. Does absolutely nothing.
Essentially just a glossy lifestyle app, which I’ve no interest in. 👎
