Ratings and Reviews
Used this app first time
Tonight at cherry tree pub in Ipswich and I went to collect two carverys up
For 3.29 each instead of 7.99 which is the actual price normally. Was given a massive plastic takeaway tray. I was asked what meat I wanted so asked for a bit of everything which they did and they said to help myself with everything else so I filled they tray up to the brim. It was such a bargain. Each tray could easily feed two people if filled up to the top. That’s less the. 1.65 each of you share one. I was very happy with the purchase . I spoke to a man in the pub and he said he used the app at a local hotel and spent 2.25 for a breakfast bag and got loads of goodies including 7 pieces of bacon. Hew was very happy with the service. I hope when I try somewhere else they will be just as good. I’ve seen loads of bad reviews in places like bakeries I’m
Hoping I don’t have the same experience when I use it for a bakery near me on Wednesday. But then you don’t know unless you try and if it’s bad you just don’t go there again do you.
I can't speak for all food places but can only imagine the same or similar repeating elsewhere.
A burger shop (Bunk Burgers) described 'wings and burgers' that you could rescue. Wings being a side this clearly indicated to me that I get a burger as well as wings - great! I go to the shop and they hand me the tied up bag which I returned home with only to find I was only given wings. No burger at all.
It looks like shops are advertising all their best this things then giving the cheapest items they can get away with.
Part of the Too Good To Go concept is that you get no choice or say in what you're given. That's understandable if it's only leftover food that'll go to waste but not reasonable if you go home with sides everytime you order a dinner.
I don't even think those wings would have gone to waste - they were made fresh when I went in. The price I was charged is almost the usual price considering it was just wings. To them it's just another deliveroo or just eat style order. Quite misleading.
Update: The Too Good To Go customer service has refunded this purchase. I can't fault the service received from them. Will try again perhaps with a different restaurant and maybe it'll be a different experience. Changed to 5 stars for now.
Good idea in theory, but flawed
Just got the app really so I don’t have much to say about my own experience, but one of the first things I noticed is that you are very much at the whim of your location. For me, there is nothing in my immediate vicinity and I would have to go to the next town over just to get to the nearest place on the app. The town isn’t usually too far but even by car it’s at least 15 minutes away and I don’t drive to begin with. I don’t know about anyone else but I’m not hopping on a train just for to pick up a bag of mystery groceries.
As for some of the other reviews I’ve seen there’s a few other problems that are an issue, namely the places just exploiting it as an opportunity to make more money from offloading the unappealing stuff which would otherwise be thrown out. I get that we’re not paying store price for this stuff and that it’s the stuff that hasn’t sold at the end of the day, but still, bit of a dick move to give someone a stale muffin that nobody wants and then make them pay too much for it.
They could show a picture of it so that we get to see if we’d actually be willing to pay the stated price for the item, either that or maybe temper the price by quality.
Developer Response ,
We're sorry we aren't in your area yet - we're working hard to get stores set up fighting food waste with us all over the UK, so please keep an eye out for new stores near you.
Please note food quality is very important to us, although it can happen that the unsold food does not look as pretty as it did at the start of the day,it should still be just as enjoyable.
If you would like to discuss anything in further detail and send us over some suggestions of stores you would like to see on the app, please fill in this webform - https://toogoodtogo.co.uk/en-gb/support/consumer. We will get back to you within 24 hours :)
