Description

Welcome home.

Tumblr: home to your new favorite artist. Come for the effervescent digital paintings in every flavor of fandom. Stay for the breathtaking original offerings of those same artists. And, in between all the art: Old internet energy. All the fandoms you could wish for. Enough memes to knock out a moderately-sized mammal. Add to it or simply scroll through and soak it up.

Every piece of life-changing art you discover, every waterfall GIF you gaze at in wonder, every quote you reblog, every tag you curate—that’s all you. Reblog them to show the world who you are, what you love. You’re the explorer. We’re just a map you all keep on making. Welcome home. Make it yours.

If you’re an artist, you’re coming in hot to a community that will love your work. Think of this as your online studio with many options: A portfolio, your calling card for your creations with in-built social engagement and community, or an online drawing board, a place to hash out ideas, share sketches, and gather feedback. Take requests and commissions or join art challenges like Goblin Week, Mermay, Julycanthropy, and Yeehawgust. Discuss the finer points of your favorite brushes. Create OC art for your favorite writers on Tumblr. Sell prints (coasters! mugs! tchotchkes!) of your work—to an audience invested in you and actively seeking these things via our Artist Alley. Create a webcomic (have you heard of Heartstopper? Started here.)

Now picture all of the above, but on the go. That’s what this is.

Chances are if you’ve seen it elsewhere, it probably started here. That digital painting you can’t stop thinking about. That text post explaining the exquisite specifics of something you never realized you needed to know. Your dashboard will become a tapestry of all the wonderful, nonsensical, fantastical things you like. Whether you post, lurk in likes, or reblog to your personal online fridge. Whatever your community, you’ll find a ready-made home here.

When you have something to say—a hot take on the finer points of a Virgo moon, Barbie fanfic, an image of your turtle Harold that you simply *have* to share with the world: Shoot your shot with a photo, a video, or a text post. Make an audio post of your ramblings or share your current favorite song via Spotify. We even have a pre-set chat post for all your incorrect quotes.

The reblog starts conversations for everyone, creates jokes, and continues them—sometimes across the world and over the years. Time and space, right here at your very fingertips. Whatever you choose to send into our effervescent digital ether, know that it can, and will, go anywhere. (Unless, of course, you use our post-level reblog controls. Private blog? Private post? All possible here).

Tumblr is the home of fandom. We’ve all got that one special blorbo from our shows. There’s fanart you’ll want to stare at, reblog, stare at again—or create yourself, and share with the community. You can read your favorite ficcers from ao3 *and* see their OC art on Tumblr *and* discuss the finer points of lore with them. Pokémon? Got it. Marvel? Here. Kpop? Check. Supernatural? Of course. Minecraft? Ready and waiting. Star Wars? Yes! Doctor Who? Doctor YOU! You get the idea: it’s all here.

It’s a whole universe out here. If the prospect of creating, reblogging, shipping, and curating feels a little daunting, head over to tips.tumblr.com, where Cat Frazier of animatedtext.tumblr.com will take you through the finer points of Tumblr etiquette—the effervescent, the eeby, the deeby.

So. Sign up, fall in love with some art, follow some tags, and find your place on the dashboard. Then reblog, like, and post to your heart’s content. Or simply drift through the dream you’ve created for yourself—you hold the keys to this kingdom.

BEST APP ON MY PHONE

I don’t write reviews for apps. Ever. But when I say this is the best app I am fortunate enough to have stumbled across, I mean it. So what has it got? Pretty much every fandom you can think of, very well written fanfics of many, many characters and pairings, vent spaces, people to meet, and complete and utter anonymity. Not to mention how hilarious the people on here are. There are a lot of different communities on here and a place for everyone to feel safe in, as well as feeling they are able to share anything due to no one knowing who you really are. I go by a completely different name and my real personality is unfiltered on there, and it’s great! Plus there are debates, polls, funny lil posts, art posts, literature posts, any kind of interest someone might have is on there and you can add your thoughts on it with one simple reblog. I cannot recommend this app enough to anyone, it doesn’t matter your age your gender your sexuality or your interests, there is a place for you here. So go download tumblr and meet people just like you :))

reduce the frequency of ads. PLS

i like tumblr, there really isn’t any other social media like it. i obviously there are bad sides to it, but there’s a weird sense of... not community, but acknowledgement? idk. like, as a website we have inside jokes that other social medias don’t have, we all have some sort of past superwholock harry potter emo edgy phase in common.
but for real. ads every five posts is a bit ridiculous. the majority of posts on my dash are textposts. short ones. so the frequency of ads is annoying. also the ads are so weird and i’m not gonna lie, some of them are funny but i had different variations of one ad that was something along the lines of ‘clear your bowels without a doctor’ and it was the most cursed disgusting pictures of bananas being cooked in the strangest way.

[tw ed mention] also obviously the problematic communities. i manage to steer clear of them, mostly, but there was one uh pro-ana blog in my recommendations for no reason. like i follow cottagecore accounts and. not meme pages but whatever the tumblr equivalent is where you just post whatever’s in your head and it gets 80k notes. if i’d seen that a year ago . oh boy it wouldn’t have ended well. i get that it’s hard to moderate these things but when i open the app and see “mental wealth month” at the top whatever that even means. it feels very performative. at least make an effort.

Dying website

The latest update ruins the functionality of what was already an infamously flawed website. There are more features that don’t work than ones that do. Sometimes it feels like tumblr is run by a single coder alone in a basement.

Tumblr has discarded a community they’ve spent 10 years fostering with an automatic filter that makes it impossible to know whether or not your innocuous content can currently be seen by other users, and fails to target the genuine adult content as intended. Communication between tumblr and its users continues to be abysmal. Staff continue to lie about non-existent notifications and site features that have not worked for years (including the backup feature that we were told to rely on to save our blogs before the removal of all flagged posts). The appeal function for the new automatic flagging was temperamental before the update went live, and now it is completely non-functional. Meanwhile the site is still full of spambots and no effort has been made to curb the growing community of white nationalists.

Tumblr once had value that other sites do not. Before this update I could not recommend you use tumblr on mobile as the x-kit browser extension is necessary to make the site functional. After this update I don’t think I can recommend tumblr at all. It won’t survive much longer.
