Description

VleBooks for iOS has arrived! A fantastic new way for you to access your school or college eBook library; empowering you with quick and easy access to the books you need and love.
This unique online platform lets you read an unrivalled selection of UK & European books via a computer without additional software, store your favourite reads in online bookshelves, search the full text of every book and create and store your notes in the cloud. Now you can also read via this dedicated reading app. VLeBooks for iOS is designed to provide a simple route to read books from your school’s eBook library offline on your iOS device. Bookmarks and annotations are available with a tap, plus easily change the brightness or turn on night mode!
Download books directly to your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch from VLeBooks.com to read at home, at school or college or on the move.
eBooks are borrowed in the same way as print books, as soon as you have logged into your school’s VLeBooks.com site you will be able to search the titles in your library’s electronic catalogue. Once you have found the title you wish to borrow, log in to VLeBooks.com, click download against any title and choose to ‘open in VLeBooks’ when prompted to download the book into VLeBooks for iOS and start reading!
How do I return the books to my library? You don’t! Each eBook is borrowed for a period you choose when you download it, and automatically expires and returns for others to borrow, meaning no late fees!
Contact your librarian today to get access to your schools VLeBooks platform, or visit VLeBooks.com for more information.
VleBooks for iOS requires a free AdobeID to access DRM protected content.

Pretty Good

I downloaded the app to read the free eBooks from my school and it is ok.

It is a bit of a pain the first time you use it as you cannot get the books from the app, you have to use the website instead. Once you have downloaded the book, you realise that it downloads as a .acsm file which you need an Adobe account to read so you have to go to the Adobe website and create an account before returning to the app and logging in with your account. You then have to go to the files app, find the .acsm file, click on it, click share and then “Copy to VLeBooks”.

However, it is much easier after you have done the initial setup.

The actual reading experience is great but it sometimes freezes when you open the app, forcing you to close out the app and try again. I also sometimes run into an issue where the pictures do not display but that does not happen very often.

Crashed my iPad Air

On first opening the app it crashed my iPad Air. Managed to open it on reboot, and then managed to read a number of pages of my book. On trying to close the app I found I couldn't. Had to reboot my iPad then I quickly deleted the app.

Bring back photocopies, for gods sake

Appalling mess. Forced to dl for time limited / drm protected access to a reading. The related website refuses to dl the file, insisting - no matter what I do - that it is available in my account. All my account has is the same download link which, when clicked, tells me that it is available in my account. The view online button on the same page is dead and does nothing.

iOS provides me with no means of exporting files from the safari web page to this app. This app provides me with no means of importing files from safari or elsewhere.

An appalling and unjustifiable mess. I can’t believe we’re forcing our students to use something so utterly broken (I’ve wasted an hour on this this morning) and will be pushing our library to abandon it in favour of electronically stored photocopies wherever this is humanly possible.

Ugh.
