Really useful weather app

I've been using this app for five years as enhancement to the commercial meteorological information provided for our flight planning at work (as an airline pilot) and it is useful and reliable. To be able to see up to date dynamic lightning strike info and precipitation radar is a great help. I wish it had greater world coverage with radar/precipitation dynamic display-at the moment it only really covers Europe.
For local weather planning for activities it is of great benefit-we camp a fair bit and it has made a big difference with booking and planning in the last ten days prior to a trip. The graphical display is clear and the quality of the information is good-of course, like all weather forecasting it can vary in difficult forecasting scenarios, however I have found it is the best available-especially compared to the phone supplied apps. Certainly worth the yearly subscription in my humble opinion.

Only good for ‘location now’ info

This app is appalling. It replaced Meteo earth, or rather the company retired Meteo Earth and gave the paid users this instead. Meteo earth’s strongest point was that one could see rain over the earth map and across a five day period which allowed for immediate, simple and quick journey planning around the whole of the UK.m. As a motorcyclist, I always need to plan over the week for weather and Meteo Earth was excellent.

Weather Pro provides a map forecast of the earth for only the next 24 hours . Long range forecasts are only available as summaries (not illustrated on the map) for each selected town/region so to plan a journey, one must check each town in turn and also those in between if journey is over any real distance. I’m currently using ‘Met Office’ for zoomed 24hr map forecast and ‘Dark Sky’ for five day map rain forecast but on which one must you zoom out quite far; both of these apps, however, are FREE.

I have now deleting the Weather Pro app as it is of no use to me and definitely not a Meteo Earth replacement. I am feeling let down by this app provider as they allowed me to subscribe to Met Earth and then informed me a few days later that it would be retired and replaced with Weather Pro. I think their conduct is quite shameful from this perspective. They would have known that their app was being retired but did not notify paid subscribers or new users until the last minute. This is cynical behaviour.

Could be better

This app infuriates me. I can’t find another one that is better, but it glitches so often I want to give up on it. As someone who cycles into work and also walks a dog it is the detailed rain radar which I mostly use it for. In particular the three hours of additional predicted rain at the end of the animated series of images. It is of course not always accurate, it’s only a prediction, but it is good enough to sometimes feel like you have a superpower when you can know with reasonable precision when it’s going to rain. However, for a few years now it has often glitched, sometimes failing to load at all and sometimes displaying the images in the wrong order. I have been using the app for about 10 years and it worked better 10 years ago than it does now. The fact that the underlying design and presentation hasn’t changed doesn’t bother me as it was pretty good in the first place, but it just feels that Meteo can’t be bothered. And now the main rain radar button has vanished and although rain radar still appears under the maps button, it isn’t such a detailed presentation. Why?
