Description
Welcome to WikiArt.org, the online home for visual arts from all around the world.
Aim of the project
Our primary goal is to make world’s art accessible to anyone and anywhere. WikiArt already features some 250.000 artworks by 3.000 artists, localized on 7 languages. These artworks are in museums, universities, town halls, and other civic buildings of more than 100 countries. Most of this art is not on public view. With your active involvement, we are planning to cover the entire art history of the Earth, from cave artworks to modern private collections. We also provide you with tools for translation on as many languages as needed.
Financial status
The project is non-profit. We use donation and advertising as financial sources to cover hosting and technical service expenses. The content of the site is launched for free by our Volunteer Team – and you are welcome to join it. Check out ‘Donate’ and ‘ how to contribute’ section to know more about it.
Copyright policy
WikiArt presents both public domain and copyright protected artworks. The latter are showcased in accordance with fair use principle:
as historically significant artworks
as used for informational and educational purposes
as readily available on the internet
as low resolution copies unsuitable for commercial use
We respond to notices of alleged copyright infringement and remove copyright protected artworks, or block them for users from countries where infringement is alerted. But mostly we try to get artist’s permission to demonstrate his art, and confirm it with a credit line.
We provide information to help copyright holders manage their intellectual property online. If you think somebody is violating your copyrights and want to notify us, please submit the notice by wikipaintings@gmail.com

Ratings and Reviews
Great for Art lovers
I love art and culture and even commentaries, but sometimes it’s just nice to be able to access art catalogues and extensive works of artists without any writing and be exposed to pure art. And should you wish, you get the added bonus of being able to buy some prints as posters, on canvas or framed in chosen sizes and prices.
This is a solid 5 stars, my only 2 suggestions for updates to make this app by far head and shoulders above the rest, would be:
1) Be able to categorise your favourites and to also make folders within folders. As it is just one long favourites list which is a lot to scroll through.
2) I’ve noticed you can’t buy some prints and for small pictures this makes sense, but I noticed with MC Esher it seems to be all his later works, it’s almost as if the developers filtered the paintings by date and made the selection to sell from his earlier works. If this is the case, it’s a mistake because some of MC Esther’s later works were phenomenal and separated himself from the rest, especially his optical illusion’s.
Anyway, this is still an amazing app and I don’t want to appear like I’m moaning because I absolutely love it.
Wiki Art Five Star app
WikiArt is a hugely important resource which gives instant access to the great and well known artists as well as the more obscure contemporary artists worldwide. One little criticism. For me there is not nearly enough Scottish artists represented. Scotland has produced massively influential art throughout the 20th century up to the present day. From Robert Colghoun and Robert MacBryde to Joan Eardley, Anne Redpath and Dame Elizabeth Blackadder. Peter Howson, Steven Campbell,Ken Currie and Gwen Hardie to name a few contemporaries. I do hope wiki art will be looking to support Scottish culture in the near future and redress the balance.
Apart from that, definitely worth five stars.
Brings a massive catalogue of art to your phone with a simple and easy UI
This app is really entertaining and within a few minutes on the homepage you can delve into different styles and genres of art. You’ll find out what is reallyyy your favourite style of art.
I don’t want to give it less than 5 stars as the overall functionality of the app is great and I’ve really expanded my knowledge on different arts and found so many amazing pieces.
My only down mark is that the search feature for keywords is limited to 20 per search. It also isn’t too accurate sometimes. The tags on different art pieces should be more plentiful and the search should be unlimited and relate better to this wider search for tags.
If it can incorporate this improvement then it is perfect for its purpose.
