Word Chums‪!‬ 17+

I’ve been playing on there for about a year now. Like many people on there, I play every day. There is a possibility to enter tournaments to win “hints” and “bombs”after a while, and once on there, it becomes an addiction. U have to love words and have a huge palet of vocabulary but you don’t necessarily need to know how to spell since the app turns the created word in green as soon as it’s an acceptable word. It is possible to “chat” with the opponent(s) (there can be up to 4 players) by typing messages.

Everyone has a “Chum name” so we don’t know who’s playing, and anonymity is guaranteed until you start tournaments, but even then, you’d have to belong to a messenger group of players to actually check their Facebook profile and see what they look like or what their real names are. But by then you already have played with most of the group members, all very friendly and welcoming so far.

A few (rare) people go on there thinking they can get a date. Forget it. It’s defo not the place for it. A player can block another player anytime they like, so there’s no risk of “harassment” of any kind, and no chance for the keyboard warriors of this world either.

All in all, I highly recommend this app for those more literate than the average.

It is a good game, actually a great game and fun to play with family members. But the ads keep popping up, and you have to wait several minutes with some of them. I realise that the developers have to be compensated somehow, but all the ads are for stupid other games which, when you read the reviews, are just peddling further ads. I never fall for ads, so the products don’t interest me, they just infuriate me. I often have to crash out of the game either because the ads never finish or just out of boredom. The developers need to get this and position the regularity and duration of ads accordingly. I have so nearly uninstalled this app so many times. It would be so nice if a suitable ground could be met between game play and boring us with ads for games we don’t want. And why encourage us to install other games taking us away from playing this one? Doesn’t make sense

I even made a friend in the US who I still play with every day and I visited her 5 years ago!

When my son travelled the world he didn’t ring a huge amount -but he played word chums with me mist dats and it was so reassuring to know he was alive and well.

It’s brilliant in every way except one: if you start a new game you are very likely to get contacted by creeps who exploit players. You can ‘chat’ and these people over share and eventually ask you for money. I deliberately let one of these conversations develop, giving false info. And that’s where it lead. Many players like me have reported this to Word chums but the problem persists -yet it’s very easy to spot these people. They are new players, rarely have a win rate above 25%, have a low % of competed games. And they begin by asking you where you come from.

Don’t let that put you off. When you press for a new game, automatically ‘block’ them -then they can’t chat and I’ve found most just don’t play more than a couple of moves, then fade away.

I play everyday and it’s simple, non-demanding and just good innocent fun.
