Incredible

I’ve been using apps on my iphone to help me navigate whilst hiking for many years. This has involved saving offline maps and then using gpx files to display routes. Around 6 months ago i started trying to achieve the same goal but using my apple watch (navigating without having my iphone on me). I tried a huge variety of apps but virtually all of them were convoluted and required expensive subscription services. I recently stumbled across this app and finally ive found what im looking for!!! Its wonderfully simple but also highly customisable. The app allows tracking a variety of workouts but i use it in its simplest form: import a gpx and then click “send to watch” and “send map to watch.” The app automatically downlods the tiles on the map that cover the gpx and sends them to the watch. I can then open the watch and just click “map” and open the gpx. Its silky smooth and the maps are all vector so scale nicely. The watch app also makes full use of the compass in the new apple watch. I also love the fact you can choose how long the glx stays active after you close the app or the screen goes dark. The developer really has created a wonderful product and their passion shines through. The watch app is so well designed and its so responsive and well though out. As i said before, i really only use it in its simplest form and the app can do so much more especially if you want to track workouts and export data etc. Thank you!!!

As good as everyone says

I have used several apps for running with my Apple Watch, but each of them was missing at least one or two key features that I really needed. I ended up using Strava just to track the runs, but it wasn’t much use during the run because I couldn’t change the way the metrics were displayed, and the numbers were too small for me to read anyway. I had reached the point where I was thinking of buying a dedicated sports watch, but thanks to this app, that is no longer necessary. A good description for the capabilities of this app would be that if you can imagine that it would be useful to do something in a particular way, the chances are that the app can do it. The only think I haven’t figured out how to do is copy and paste intervals when building a workout. This would be helpful because the intervals are so insanely customisable that it takes ages to get them all the same. However, the fact that I haven’t figured out how to do this doesn’t mean that the app can’t do it, so I’ll keep experimenting. Some people may be put off by the fact that you have to pay for the app, but it is a miracle that it’s not a subscription. Having used it, I would happily pay ten times the amount they are asking and still call it a bargain. If you have an Apple Watch and want to use it for sports, this app will completely transform your experience.

Amazing App - I have an issue though…

I recently started using the 'WorkOutdoors' app for my outdoor workouts, and I must say that it's been an amazing experience so far. The app's features are comparable to my Garmin Fenix 6X Pro, and it has proved to be a perfect companion during my runs and hikes.

However, there are two small issues that I noticed while using the app. Firstly, whenever I import a GPX file, I find that the first part of the route is always missing in this app. This could cause some inconvenience, especially when I'm following a particular route and need accurate directions. Secondly, it would be great to have a feature where the app vibrates or makes a noise before I have to make a turn. I've missed a few turns during my runs because I didn't realize that I was heading in the wrong direction.

Overall, I really like the WorkOutdoors app, and it's been a great addition to my workout routine. With the inclusion of these few features, I believe it can be even better."

Developer Response ,

Glad you like the app! Turn by turn navigation is in the plans for the future. The first part of a route being missing has never been reported before. Are you maybe getting your GPX routes from a system with a privacy zone around your house? Strava does this for example. If that doesn't explain it then please contact info@workoutdoors.net
