We love Yoto

As a family these are excellent audio players. We have 2 minis for travelling and a full size player in the bedroom. Between the audiobooks and loading them up with music our girls start trading and listening to music independently.

We also use the full size player as a nighttime clock for our 6 year old. I would like the option to change different times for different days (even just weekday and weekend options would be great). The option to have the backlight come on automatically at night would also be great (currently you need to lay it on its face to do this, but then cants see the time).

Overall the app and the players are ace - go buy one!

Amazing player frustrating app

We recently got the Yoto mini for my son for Christmas and I love it, it has so many features and is like a mini Walkman. It is however let down by the app. This app often crashes which is frustrating. It would be great to be able to add a playlist of the free content to a ‘Make your own’ card like you can with the Tonie player, instead you can only add one item from the free content at a time which then means you have to keep changing it if your child wants to listen to something else, and then the app crashes which is irritating. Also I recently bought some cards in the sale which I planned on giving at different times of the year, but the Yoto account adds them automatically to my app once they’ve been delivered. Although this is a great concept you should be asked if you would like this to happen as some of these were presents (luckily my son is only 5 and doesn’t see the app but an older child might). Great concept but the app just needs a few tweaks to make it as enjoyable as the Tonie I bought for my 1 year old (the Yoto seems a much better concept for my 5 year old but hasn’t been as easy to use via the app)

Hi, many thanks for the feedback. To respond to all of the points you've raised - we have systems in place to spot crashes which may happen from time to time and are few in number but we do fix up as soon as we spot them in time for the next release and we release frequently.
I'm guessing that the source of your crash may be around linking cards? Could you drop us an email to hello@yotoplay.com and ask for Ed so that we can make sure that we are fixing specifically the crash that is affecting you, and so that you can let us know your other pain points that we can consider for future updates.
Cards may be removed from your account to avoid small prying eyes (and can be re-added by scanning them in the phone or by playing them in a Player). To remove a card, tap on it in the app to show the card details, then tap the three dots menu at the top right and in the visible menu, choose "Remove from the app".

Impossible to connect

Love the idea of this but it’s nearly impossible to connect and get online. The app is super glitchy for getting it set up. Gives you 3 seconds to type in 16 character WiFi password, constantly gives out “unable to join Yoto network. Try again” message. Took me 3 days of switching off, restarting player and phone - reinstalling the app, etc. Won’t let you copy and paste WiFi password into the app - have to manually type in every character which then times out when you do with “failed to connect”. Both my husband and I tried to connect to the player at least 50 times before we were successful (we are both very tech savvy). Spent hundreds of pounds on cards so had to make it work - but in this day and age - the connectivity issues are very disappointing. The player itself is good once connected but the headache of getting it online is almost not worth it.

Developer Response ,

Hi kiryushyna - sorry to hear that. This isn't the normal experience and that sounds like your player is dropping the setup connection which can be for a variety of reasons: in phone settings, 'Local network' must be enabled for the Yoto app. The player might also be receiving interference from a nearby baby monitor that's interrupting setup - try setting the player up somewhere else in your house.
