The app aims to inspire a love of stories in every child in the UK and support early years reading. Good but just one thing…..

My young in loved this game but he stopped playing it after a couple weeks, and I wanted to figure out why. I went on the app while he was busy, and I saw why he had stopped playing it….he had read all of the stories, even the bedtime stories. I had no idea how he had managed it, but he had downloaded and read every single story the app had, I have not noticed if new stories are added, but if not could u make that happen? I wached the bing one and you faked it! I wached the episode and it was so different it’s from the same episode and you keep getting the animations wrong 😠 why won’t you ever learn?! why? WHY? WHY?! By the way when I read the night before Christmas you’re missing out a very important reindeer Rudolph how could you?! If you don’t know Rudolph then you will have to go to a preschool and I know what you said to other people and it was just the same thing so don’t say it to me because I already know I’m a smarty-pants and there is no more swiping😭 where did the fun go u mean people kid like me loved the old version 😠 and now the characters only move a tiny bit! And where are the quizzes now mummies don’t know if the kids have been paying attention to the story because without your quizzes what if they say wow you pay great attention and then the kid says no I didn’t it’s CBeebies story time because they didn’t add that educational quiz that was good for you so yeah add in the quizzes or else

Disappointing updated version

My child used to love the cbbc Storytime app. It had lots of wonderful interactive and educational stories with all his favourite characters. His big brother loved it too as lots of stories to suit all ages. However, we were both really surprised when the updated version was released recently. Stories are very limited (10 stories at present time) and the interactive element has largely gone. My son loved pressing the octoalert button or helping David Attenborough capture a Komodo dragon, but now ‘interaction’ comprises of tapping a character to make them move slightly. Although the app is still useful -and nd there doesn’t seem to be anything else like it- I just don’t understand why you would remove a fantastic app and replace it with a very limited and inferior one?!

Hello, we are sorry you're disappointed with the new app. Unfortunately, the previous Storytime was built on old technology that wasn’t easy to update and fix. By updating the app, we will be able to make improvements and add new stories, but unfortunately we have had to remove some of the older stories. We appreciate change can be difficult for children, so alongside adding new stories regularly to the app throughout the year, we have put many of the old stories on the CBeebies website here to watch as video playthroughs https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/curations/storytime-stories. We’re going to join the chorus of reviewers and parents who loved the old version with its interactivity and find the updated version doesn’t hold our toddler’s attention. I understand the idea is to make this (much) more like reading a book, but I think this is where the developers have misunderstood the place for this app. It is not a replacement for books in our home, which our toddler loves, but a replacement for videos on a phone/tablet when we are travelling or out. It felt much better than a video as it was interactive, and our toddler certainly learnt some words and concepts from it. Shame to have lost the old version as that certainly offered something very appealing and we thought valuable to our toddler.
