OS Maps: Walking & Bike Trails

Plan hikes, runs & bike rides

View

Head for the hills, mountains, valleys and other exceptional places with OS Maps. It’s your portal to the great outdoors, showing you the best walking, cycling, running, hiking and climbing routes across the UK and Ireland.

What we love: OS Maps isn’t just a brilliant mapping app with detailed terrain information and points of interest. It also makes excellent use of augmented reality (AR) technology. The app’s AR Viewer uses GPS and your iPhone camera to overlay points of interest and other data on the landscape around you, bringing a whole new perspective to your rambles.

You can discover new walking routes or upload and share your own.

Quick tip: Going far from the madding crowd often means going far from a decent phone signal. If that’s likely or even possible, make sure to prepare with the Offline Maps mode. This downloads the maps for your route so you can access them even when you’re struggling for signal.

Meet the creator: Ordnance Survey made its first map, of Scotland, way back in 1745. It’s 100 per cent publicly owned, and these days paper maps only account for one-twentieth of its income: it makes a huge range of digital maps and other location-based products.
